Very cute

jlaw....  As I was telling Rancher, "Chicken Feathers" is a kid's book, but it is not a baby book.  It's an amusing read for grown-ups too, so you and your daughter could read it together.  Cute story...

Can't believe the chicken in the brooder light!  I guess any port in a storm, as they say!  If it had been turned on, you could have enjoyed some KFC this morning!

Poofs, huh?  Is your wife's bantam a little Ameracauna?  Must be cute!

Oh, I remember those days (er, nights)!   My just turned 12 and if he is having a bad night, I might still end up in his room for an hour or two!  Hang in there!

:thumbsup   Good for you!

jlaw, your birds and your family are adorable!
TS "red pullets" are what my chickens are. They are now 9 weeks old, and have turned out to be smart, affectionate, and hardy. It is my understanding that they are basically the "mutts" of the chicken world, having not an official "breed" ... but I am very well pleased with them.

I have 3 "red pullets" and they are my 3 favorite birds. Their names are Lucy, Stella and Gertrude and right from the beginning they have been the friendliest (they are also my escape artists). When I'm outside they follow me around the yard and are the first ones to come up to the fence to look for treats. We are building a second coop and they are always standing by watching what we are doing. They are the "supervisors."

I have four: Kung Pao, Teriyaki, Nuggets, Baby Wings. Two are Amber Sex Links: Sesame, And Biscuits. These chickens have probably spoiled me for any others. They are so easy to care for, and really quite "tidy" compared to what I had expected. They will sit on my lap or my shoulder, and like to hang out in the yard near their people if we are working in the yard or if we are sitting at the picnic table. After only two nights of showing them "where to go" they always go into their coop at sundown.
Now if only my ducklings would begin to behave.

Some times "mutts" pick up the best traits of their combo heritage! My pit-crosses are great dogs all around, and my horse is a QH-cross and he's just great. So why not "mutt" chickens!?

They sound adorable and lovable! I love to hear that chickens interact with their owners.

well came back to comp while eating so I get to reply woot!!. I've taken them all out like 3 days past week or two and a couple randomly. Mainly the 3 white birds since they're a week or two older. Also wifes little bantam since it seemed to get it's feathers in faster than the reds.

As for reading I love science fantasy type with wizards witchs dragons ect. I also loved Shades of grey. It's a kids book not to be mixed up with 50 shades of grey. Here is a link.

Shades of Grey looks good. I just read whatever I like. Reading should be fun not a competition IMHO. Some books require a little more focus for me.

Just got home from school (volunteer job). There are two Del and two EE chicks hatched out. Nothing in the coops though. Some of the Marans have pipped but it is only day 20 so they have some time.

This weather is good so it's gardening time.

I agree Jlaw nice looking birds.

Child don't matter what a bird is along as you love it. Call them mutts or hybrids don't matter if they're well cared for. I keep a mutt or two just cuz I like them. EE's are just crosses or mutts but good layers.

enjoy the day folks, love ya,

Rancher
