. And the year is young
That might be a breed I need to look into I have plenty of egg layers.

for those of you that are gardening how is it going? this is my first time trying it out so we'll see but my sunflowers are starting to come in which makes me super excited. Some of my vegetables started to come in but I think I'm going to buy some already grown plants especially tomatoes in berries.

I think they'll grow quickly. So cute! Weren't the turkeys tiny?

I've been looking into the cicada question, and it looks like we here in Onondaga county may not get many cicadas this year, but there may be a lot in the Hudson Valley. We may have our own emergence in 2018, centered on an area around the Onondaga Reservation, and Route 80 south of Syracuse.

But I think that chickens might like to eat cicadas if they come to an area near by.

My red & white potatoes are growing wonderfully, sunflowers about 4 inches tall & pumpkins have self planted themselves (I had over 100 from pumpkin seeds fed to the hens over the winter) and the onions are starting to peak out. Beets, turnips, and lettuce are also starting to grow. Hoping no freezes over the weekend

a dee dee dee!

Afternoon all. Came home and released the silkies and big girls and put the tater tots out in the puppy pen. The terrorists will come out later when I can sit out and play warden to keep them on our side of the road, out of the neighbors newly seeded lawn. I will have persuasive correction tool in hand to help me. Silkies were thrilled to get out into the front yard and the two groups are behaving themselves for a change. I never have to worry about the divas because they ignore the silkies and do their thing. The terrorists, however, are another story. They are always stalking around the tots looking for a way in to get to the food I sprinkle in there for the babies to scratch for. They also boldly go into the divas coop and eat their food and would probably do so to the silkies coops if they could get in. Olaf would probably kill my roos if they got into it so I like to err on the side of safety.

Hen--you are not the only one with roo problems. Olaf has been challenging both me and my dh lately. I think he has gotten on his last nerve. I expect to hear that freezer camp or crock pot hot tub is getting a visitor this weekend. Thats okay because two of the tater tot rir are boys so I have some up and coming. I also have a couple of sexlinks who are getting on my nerves and they might be joining him. They are nasty to the rest of the girls in the group.

All you peeps with your free chicks and hatching eggs are killing me. I need more acreage and more coops so I can take advantage! Of course that would mean more work, more feed, ect which would mean more working for me or winning of the lottery. Hmm....Okay, Im good with four coops and what I have!!! lol

If there is any kind of get together this year would whomever is hosting it post it soon? I have to put in for any days off I need like a month in advance and even then its a crap shoot.

Gotta go check on the tater tots. Later.

yes you do. I've got another chick hatched day before yesterday. That's 24 total. EE's and Marans. Some Dels too but I hope to keep the pullets on those. I just gave my RIR girl five BR eggs. I sure don't intend to keep all these chicks and selling them won't work.

So if I can trade them for something I can use at least I get something for my trouble.

I start some of my own plants but buy some too. I like to buy the Heirloom tomatoes for others. It's less trouble to buy a couple of heirloom that struggle to start them my self.

RIP my little Beatrice. She had been living in a crate in my den for awhile, she hadn't been well and really I should have put her down long ago...luckily she passed away in her sleep last night before I had to make the decision. She was my favorite though she was always cuddly and would follow me around the yard

Only 8 chicks from second hatch. Boo hisss... what did these teachers do to those eggs? I am getting 50% hatch rates with the same eggs set the same day they set theirs at school.

Won a pair of sandles from some online store. Ordered them. Now to see if they come.

Stopped at a bicycle accident on way to work this morning to offer my well stocked first aid kit. Woman was unconscious so there was nothing anyone was willing to do. Thought I was going to be late to work (and didn't care) but got there a minute early. LOL

Henicillin you can have that roo. I have 2 already, even with the loss of my Sumantra roo, so I don't need any more.

Has anyone decided to accept hosting the gathering this year?
