NY chicken lover!!!!

Morning All!

TOB: your pullets are absolutely lovely!!! Seems like they have great personalities too! Can't wait to see the others.

Not much to report here other than I hope the weather is nice today so I can start this duck house! These ducklings are getting MESSY! If I can get this thing going I'm going to keep it right next to the house and put them and the heat lamp outside. But I'm sure this won't happen any time soon.

So after much thought, I think I have a way and a plan on how to incorporate the tots into the diva coop without the divas being able to kill them. The tots will be 8 weeks old on the 26th. I have a puppy pen that will probably fit inside the divas coop so the girls can look but not touch. This way they all get used to each other and then I can let them out together. I am hoping that works. My silkie tots will go into Legolas coop. They seemed okay on the first meeting so I will try it this weekend. If it all works, I get my basement back!

Hi Pharm,

This is what I've been doing the past several days (with the exception of the 2 very cold nights) to peacefully integrate the "little sisters" with the "big sisters." The 1st day, one of the Columbian Rocks reached through the pen fence and bit a youngster twice. After that, I didn't see any bullying, but I am very glad to have that dog kennel fence up between them. There is a gross size difference. So patience is the key, as it is a bit of a pain to be honest, jockeying the cage in and out of the coop to get the little ones outside, and separate food and water, etc. But I know it's the right thing to do for now, and I don't want to see the beautiful babies on the big girls' menu. Good luck with your integration procedure!

Thanks, Lynzi. I will put up more photo's shortly. We had a power outage yesterday too, albeit a brief one. I'm not sure why, but I know there have been a lot of power crews working between my area and yours the past couple of weeks, so maybe the disrupted something. Or maybe someone hit a power pole...

I cannot believe the mess that 3 little pullets can make indoors, even in a kennel cage!

With regard to the sensitive topics discussed on here the past few days, I think (from a newbie's perspective) that most people are just trying to be helpful and saying what works for them. I have learned a lot from my participation on BYC. Having been an active member on a fishing forum for 7 or 8 years, I am well acquainted with heated and lively debates over various topics. They are inevitable when you have a group of people with different backgrounds, beliefs and philosophies. But if you can learn to develop a bit of a thicker skin, it will serve you well as you take from the advice what feels like a good fit for you, your expectations and your "vision." It is definitely easy to have your thoughts come across as harsh, even if you didn't have that "tone" in your mind while you were typing.

Well I went to CM to get some chick grower and the guys says someone came in and bought it all. Was it YOU??

I'm glad to have a TSC nearby cuz I went there and bought a bag of Dumor. Which I prefer but can't always afford.

I decided to buy some pepper plants to put in and as you all know I use a wagon to drag everything around the yard.

So here I am watering the chickens and making repairs on the fencing and as I go to get the plants I see they are all gone. THE STUPID CHICKENS ATE $3 WORTH OF PLANTS!

They know there is scratch and stuff for the compost in the wagon and come and scrounge if they can. I didn't think they'd eat the pepper plants.

DW laughed out loud.

TOB nice pics.

Well i can't find what Stony said about Freak Aliens but I agree.

I don't think he made the comment, Child of Noah's choice of words! LOL

Well I can already tell today is going to be awful as far as work goes! I've been sitting here since 8 doing nothing because of a stupid password that needs to be changed by our vendors! Ugh!!! Don't they know I could be building a duck house right now!?!? Time wasted again I guess....

Took some pics of the ducklings yesterday with my good camera. Going to upload those later. Maybe if it gets warm enough today I'll take them outside in the grass for a while.
