Thanks, Lynzi. I will put up more photo's shortly. We had a power outage yesterday too, albeit a brief one. I'm not sure why, but I know there have been a lot of power crews working between my area and yours the past couple of weeks, so maybe the disrupted something. Or maybe someone hit a power pole...

I cannot believe the mess that 3 little pullets can make indoors, even in a kennel cage!

I can only imagine DUCKLINGS! Oh my.......!

TOB
I couldn't even imagine the duckling mess compared to the chicks. I was SO glad to get them outside! I can hardly wait to brood baby chickens again but I will never ever ever have ducklings in the house again. If they are going to make babies, they will have to do it themselves.
And I agree. More pictures.
Haha when I got 2 silkies from Lynzi and my mom saw them she said she now has her poodles

See? I'm not the only one who thinks they are winged puppies. .... and that Poodles and Shih Tzus aren't exactly dogs...

I just went out in my yard, had to make sure the ducklings had food since they are penned. The chickens flocked to me like they usually do (

) and then they started pecking my toes! *** crazy birds?!?!
I was out barefoot and my toenails are painted "Raspberry Festival" or in other words "Chicken Attracting Red" hahaha I would pick up my right foot and they would go peck my left toes; pick up the left foot and they would peck the right toes. I'm sure it was quite the dance move if anyone would have witnessed it.

I finally got temps and humidity to stay level yesterday, so this morning the eggs went in. 8 silkie eggs and 3 store bought eggs for me to compare the candling to the first few days. I'm not expecting much since this is my first time but I am curious to see what I can learn from this.

I'm curious to see how this works for you since I've been comtemplating the idea of making my own incubator.

Like I said, not expecting much but I had everything laying around the house to try it save the thermostat. I think that if I decide to make another one I may go slightly larger footprint and look into using two light bulbs rather than one with all the reading I've been doing. Also need to find a quieter fan next time. I got the wiring right on the first attempt, unsure if dumb luck or from being the daughter of a mechanical engineer.

So nice to have a morning home for a change. I'm loving this weather. What a lovely day!

Here are pics of the "big sisters" I bought from Rancher.

"Pringles", the Delaware - not a mean bone in her body, at least not yet. She figured out the auto chicken door very quickly without the fuss of the others.

One of my two Columbian Rocks. I don't remember if this was "Ursa" or "Molly". These birds are VERY curious. "Ursa" is a little feisty, if you know what I mean.

Here is "Helen", my Black Marans. She rules the roost with an iron claw. Super alert and would prefer to keep to herself on the roost, but the others crowd close by her, even at the risk of a peck or two.

Enjoy your day, everyone!

Was just at TSC, Rancher crossed my mind, so I was looking for a guy with a coffee cup and a wagon load of chicken supplies. Must have missed you. I was the one with the roll of hardware cloth, and black mesh fencing, green garden stakes....

Breella, sorry about your knee. My husband just had a double tear repaired, and it was a pain, both rehabbing, and paperwork. It sounds like you should push for the surgery now, with the lack of stability, but I know that insurance wants people to go through a lot of PT etc before they will OK the surgery. DH's surgeon got on the phone to say he needs it now. His recovery has been a little slow because he couldn't stop working...trim carpenter, kneeling up and down ladders. Those things slow recovery. But great work making the incubator!!

Lynzi and TOB, beautiful pics, thanks for sharing them. The Martians were fun to watch.

Child, I hope you looked more like the Peanuts kids, those heels could kill either you or the chickens. I had a similar experience and now prefer the pearly colors. Not so painful but remind me of nail fungus...

Need to get everyone older than a week out in the sun.
