NY chicken lover!!!!

You'll learn a lot with your first chickens....sometimes I think my brain can't hold anymore, and then...bang...something else gets tucked away. Now if I can only remember why I sat down to the computer........

Oh, believe me, I can relate!

I'm a little aggravated, was just browsing thru the Farm & Garden section of CL and came across this ad from the Amish Structures up the road from me.

http://syracuse.craigslist.org/grq/3839044026.html

I emailed them last year asking if they build coops and they're response was "Something that small isn't really worth our time building". I guess they're hurting for business if they have time to build them now!

I have some of the worst broodies in the universe. :p My two cobroodies are still parenting one chick, so that's good - but I went and checked on the four broodies I have in one coop and there's a bloody egg, with ants on it, tossed out of the nest. I figure it's dead - so I check. Nope! It's still alive.. barely. Thankfully it was hot today. It's a naked neck too /sob. Maybe she didn't like naked necks? I have little or no hope that it will survive and I don't have an empty incubator, so I tossed it under my best stable broody just to see if it can be warmed up and make it. I think it's hopeless, but I couldn't throw a live baby in the woods so that's the only chance it has. Princess is the one broody I can trust so she gets the egg. after the two squashed chicks last week I think princess is the ONLY one getting chicks this year. grr.

It's my fault, I gave away my best broodies since they love to brood too much, with the exception of Princess. Ah well.

Oh, that's a very sad situation -- I'm really sorry, featherz!

Sigh. No chicks for me. Or no MORE chicks for me. No ducks either. Day 30 on the Duck eggs and not a single pip.

My D'uccle abandoned her nest on Day 16 or so. Of course I had to open the eggs. 2 were not fertile/not developing in any way. 1 was an early quitter. Today I found a cracked egg in the nest with a late quitter in it. And I took an egg that the hen kept pushing out. No development. (It actually rotted...eww... if I had left it there it would have exploded in this heat)

I wonder if it is too late to call Annie and get some chicks for this broody.

Well Stella is now on two eggs! Finally for another egg from the black Silkie hen today. She lays late in the day. At least at this point, even if I get one egg to hatch in the bator and one to hatch under Stella, I'll have at least two to keep each other company! :)

If these hatches are successful I should end up with either black or blue or both Silkie chicks. So if anyone is interested in them if/when the time comes, feel free to PM me! :)

I may have chicks on Sunday. Was planning to give a few to broodies, but now it seems only a few deserve them. :p
