NY chicken lover!!!!

Morning all. Still yucky here with humidity and temps. Baby shower yesterday was nice and we got an awesome view of the nasty thunderstorms that rolled through our area yesterday afternoon. I love a good light show.

The tater tots and the divas seem to have reached an understanding in the coop. Betty is not being as mean and the rest of the girls are tolerating the upstarts. Uncle Bill, one of the little cockerals, has been sparring a bit with his brother and roosting up with the big girls. He takes his pecks with a squawk but refuses to get down. The other tots roost on the smaller roost I put in there. Dh let both groups out last night to freerange and there were no problems. The tots ran all over and had a great time. Everyone ignored them including Olaf. He, however, decided to challenge me last night and I ended up whacking him up side the head a few times with a board. Dh chased him around the yard for quite a while with the correction tool. I think its time for him to go. His replacements are growing nicely and I am sure the hens would love a break and be able to grow back their feathers.

My silkie girl is holding tight on her eggs. I will have to candle them at the end of the week and see exactly how many she is on. Of course my girl Sarah in the other pen has now gone broody as well. Rancher---you are spreading broody disease! Cut it out!!! Not sure yet if I will give her a couple of eggs to hatch. I know I am not raising any more inside as I just got them all out of my basement!!!

Back to the pharm today. Its monday so that means crazyness. Later peeps.

miquwid-- I'm due Oct 1st

The show went well in Syracuse. My girls ran themselves to exhaustion with their friend.

One of my banties hatched out a baby and it was out of the nest with momma still sitting on the rest of the eggs. One of the other mommas was taking care of it with her much older chick, but when I checked at night time she was on roost with older chick. New baby was left by itself on ground and I noticed it had a wound on its back. Now I have a baby banty by itself in the house and I need a friend for it. My other eggs aren't hatching fast enough for it to have a friend. I don't want it to be alone for days. I've been snuggling with it so it would not be upset. I've called it peanut.

Pharm = I'm glad your tator tots & divas are getting along. Sounds like your one is ready for the pot naughty boy.

it cool down tremendously here its like in the 60's. I had a really great run with the boys but it seems I had to overly good run had a great time and now I can barely walk my hip is killing me it's an old horse back riding injury from back when I was 11 that was 20 years ago

The other morning out delivering the papers these adorable ladies crossed my path while they were free ranging. Dangerous since just blocks away I have crossed paths with several coyotes while delivering the same paper route! These ladies had some cute black spots on them!

Cute Breella! I love driving by people's houses/farms and seeing chickens and ducks free ranging! There's just something about that scene that I love.

Still no sign of my rabbit. :-( Tried listening to any kind of movement in the woods, didn't really hear too much and if anything at all I'm sure it was just chipmunks seeing as how they seem to be taking over the land here! I have another big hole in my front yard! Ugh

My hatch is over.. 20 cute little chicks! I think two are from my leghorn eggs, the rest are from CB. Just put one chick down (I HATE doing that) because s/he was born with no eyes and a really messed up navel. Oddly enough it was my only sticky chick and managed to beat his or her way out of the wrong end of the egg. I didn't even help it. I hate hate hate doing that but if I can even get that chicken to grow up poor thing would probably not do well with some of the others. /sniff. I know others have done well with blind chickens, but with school/work etc I would not have given it the care it deserves. On the positive, the others are awesome and CUTE!! :)

I'll put up a pic in a bit. You can tell which ones are from my eggs - big ol yellow chicks. :)

Sorry you can't find your rabbit lynzi. Hope it comes back.

Featherz that stinks sorry you had to put it down.

Yes, it did. I pondered keeping it - I know others have done it, but I am not home enough to give good care to a blind chick. Plus I think it had other issues - it wasn't yet walking, was severely pasted up and had a very open and sticky navel. Normally it would be a nobrainer, but this chick got itself out of the egg so was giving it a chance. But it's not a good life when I won't be home watching it eat and drink, etc.

My other chicks are zooming around all happy! :) Not a single one of the other chicks came out sticky - maybe this one found a hot spot in the brinsea.

This is one of the eggs I have under Stella right now. It's not the first egg I placed under her but it is definitely the smallest! She's only been sitting on them since Wednesday, so this one may have gone under her Thursday or Friday...
