NY chicken lover!!!!

Jlaw you crack me up. Do you drown them personally or does it just happen by accident?
They just run in there every now and then I check the pump and there is one down there dead. Sub-pump is in like a 5gal bucket hole so they cant get out. We have really bad laid-up stone foundation I can feel air comeing into the basement 3 feet under ground lvl from the wall. That's mainly where the under ground window is but still three feet under the window.

Jaylaw - I need one of those bucket things for our sump pump. Right now it's just a small hole. A lot of digging to be done though. Never caught a mouse in ours though.

I did go around the basement with "Stuff" and fill in many of the holes where mice can get in. What a messy job in the crawl spaces. I wore gloves but manage to get it on my clothes and on my arms.

Wanted to post these pics even though it's not friday so you can see the difference between the two breeds.

This is one of my CR hens. Some characteristics. Slow to mature, notice the shape of her body compared to the Delaware below. Personality not overly friendly. Have yet to have one go broody . Hope they do. These may have more black than they should.

This is a Delaware hen. Note the shape of her body compared to the CR hen. Matures earlier than the CR. Personality very friendly and calm. Have one sitting on eggs as I type this. She too has more black than I like. I'm not sure if she's from my original stock.

Anyone in need of a beautiful black silkie?

Grandson of "Monster" (Amy Jo Piehls rooster) is in need of a new home. He is just a year old, from a pure black pen and is deep glossy black with green sheen. My special needs daughter can not catch him since he prances around like king of the pen and is a bit of a cranky pants. Once we pick him up, he is very gentle. He is sitting on my lap in the kitchen as I type.

These photos taken in the sunlight don't do his color justice. Willing to ship from 12601 if the weather holds out otherwise local pickup. Would like to send him off to a new home tomorrow as we are reconfiguring the coop layout. I am putting up a classified if BYC will let me using Tapatalk. Please PM me if need more info.

I care nothing about showing breeds and the particulars of breed standards, so I actually like the way the dark black looks against the white feathers on both the CR and the Del. I think it's a beautiful contrast to the otherwise boring white.

Yes, you can sure see the difference in the stature of these two species. The CR is very "chesty" and the Del is so upright.

The CRs you sold me are eating from my hand now, as well as the Del, but they are all a bit skittish. They are definitely in a routine now, which is great. The last hurdle is the permanent merging of the "bigs" and "littles".......today they hung out again with supervision in the pen. I am definitely the mother hen and have to step in. The big ones seem to get this now. Hoping another week or so and I can close the book on this separation chapter.

By the way, out of the big girls, the biggest piggy is my Maran, Helen. She is getting very bold and loves to be first to grab goodies from our hands...."Miss Piggy" and she makes grunting sounds like a pig at that!

These ducklings are soooo cute!!! Now what's up with the coloring of their bills? Does that mean anything as far as sexing them goes? Or are they two different breeds?
I thought I put all Pekin/Runner mix eggs under my BO but it is looking more and more like 1 mix and 2 pure Runners. I'll know soon enough I suppose !

Aren't they just adorable? There is just something about ducklings

Ohhh ok I see. I only asked because I'm noticing one of my ducks has a more yellowish/greenish bill where the other two are more brown. Was wondering if it was indication it was a drake or not. Ducks are winning me over big time. I don't know why I didn't start with them. And they're so much more fun to hold than chickens. LOL
