NY chicken lover!!!!

Morning all! Spent a lovely evening outside with the cheeps last night watching them and crotcheting an unfinished project I found. The tater tots were having a ball running around. They always come running to me when I call or when one of the terrorist hens are being mean to them. They are looking really good at just over two months old. The divas have pretty much accepted the invasion of their coop by the tots and only betty feels the need to be mean.

Candled the eggs under the two broody silkie girls last night and all look viable right now so I am looking at 8 babies if all goes well. I am just hoping nobody else goes broody! This time I am letting the girls do everything.

Jayin--I can understand about your dog. We had to put down our lab of almost 13 on columbus day weekend. My daughters and I cried for weeks afterwards.

Tab---I see you are collecting ducks now. Do you use yours as bait to lure in others?

JK!

Ginny---I was wondering where you were!

Off to waste a beautiful day inside at work. I hope some of you get to enjoy it.

I need you!!!! My body needs you!!!!
Especially after standing and counting all day...You could try someone local. Some therapists offer a 30 minute massage which is more affordable. Get your back and neck done before you have a day off. Life would be better for everybody if we all got more massages!!This especially includes myself!!!

Welcome all newbies!!!

Tab, a girl! Have you thought of a name yet?

Sorry for the losses people have expeirenced and Yay for the successfulhatches.

Also, Lynzi(I think it was lynzi) great news on the bunny coming home!

Great pictures of ducks, bunnies and chickens!

Have a great day everybody!!

Morning All,
Can't believe how much cooler it's gotten the last few days. Kinda nice....Anywho, my silkies are 10 wks old today and still no signs as to any roos. One was crowing a week or so back but hasn't since. They're getting so big and taking up a lot of space in this coop now that they're in with the adults. I think I'm going to have to do some altering on that coop to expand their run a little bit.

Picking up a bearded dragon for my son today. I wanted it to be a surprise for the last day of school which isn't until next Friday, but if I want one I gotta get it from this person today. So I either try everything in my power to hide it from him until then, or I come up with some story to make him think it's not here to stay permanently unless he continues to do well in school for the next week and a half. (He has a really tough teacher for a first grader, she's strict and has the most 3 wild boys in her class out of the 3 classes. So my son, although not one of them, he's been following in their footsteps every time they get out of control which has gotten him into some trouble throughout the year) Needless to say I really dont like his teacher and I cannot wait for this school year to be over! He's trying really good to behave and I see that so this is an early birthday gift/finish of first grade surprise.

1. While there are varying opinions on insulated the coop you can use anything chickens can't get at. I've only done part of my coop with left over aluminum covered foam board. Over that I've got culled pieces of press board or ply wood.

2. Preening - To smooth or clean (feathers) with the beak or bill. b. To trim or clean (fur) with the tongue, as cats do. 2. To dress or groom (oneself) with elaborate care; primp ...

3. To add pic, click on the icon next to the one that looks like a roll of film. It will say insert image. You can select any pictures in you computer picture library.

Ginny--No I don't have any names yet. Travis and I don't agree on any. None seem right yet either. Had a boy name picked out for years, but Travis says Logan isn't a girls name and refuses to consider it for a girl.

Pharm-- Yup. I use my pekins as baby duck bait!

No insulation needed. Their feathers keep them toasty warm. Mine are in a hoop coop covered with canvas. All they need is a draft free house with good ventilation and to be kept dry.

We get snow and temps during the winter that can & does get in the single digits with wind chills below zero.

Under my pic is a link to my coop if ur interested in the set up. Everyone here is very friendly &

I just saw the pics of your coop and you've got some very good designs. I was wondering how to ventilate my hoop coop and you've showed me how. Thanks. Strangely enough my rooster in the hoop coop doesn't get frost bit while the ones in the coop have. Mine is covered with three tarps. I had two but added a dark green one last fall.

Will be looking at your coop again too.

Tab - forgot to say cute pics of the ducks!! Too funny about the duckling.

I almost hit a duck yesterday on our way home from school. I was coming around the bend and down the mountain and boom this thing was crossing the road. All by itself, white with some gray marking on its back, just taking it's time crossing the road. It had to of belonged to someone. Just don't know who, I've never seen any ducks in that area in the year I've been here. And I've been traveling that road twice a day all school year.
