NY chicken lover!!!!

What an adorable group of photos!
A week after we released our ducks back on to the pond we noticed that they had a little buddy tagging along with them. Have no clue where its real parents are.
No reply until after 11:30, so it's a no go. May try for another day, we'll see. Meanwhile, took a pic of the kits:

I have sixteen poults in a brooder now. I bought 15 and they shipped 17, but one was lost in shipping. They're very cute - like big, gangly chicks. Porters shipped some neat varieties (I went for Breeder's Choice) - Black-winged Bronze, Standard Bronze, Jersey Buff, Pencilled Palm, Self-Blue, and White Holland.

Photos of the big versions: http://www.porterturkeys.com/orderpoults.htm

It's young, they going on 4wks old. My problem is keeping the terrarium somewhere out of site from my kids. Especially with the lights/lamps on it.

Hope you're prepared for how much s/he's going to eat!! They take so much care when they're young, feeding twice a day, baths, dusting their food with calcium and vitamins, and finding food smaller than the space between their eyes...it can be exhausting! Still, it's worth it. My beardie was an utter brat this morning at her feeding, but she's a such a sweetheart that I don't mind

At this point, we have so many animals that I take care of, I keep telling my husband, what's one more! Lol

Ginny--No I don't have any names yet. Travis and I don't agree on any. None seem right yet either. Had a boy name picked out for years, but Travis says Logan isn't a girls name and refuses to consider it for a girl.

Pharm-- Yup. I use my pekins as baby duck bait!

I've always liked the name Logan for a boy.

Many years ago I read a book that had a girl named Rowan in it. I thought it had a lovely sound to it and was unique, which I like when choosing names for kids. It's feminine but strong.

Pondering your child's name is a wonderful thing. As you are well aware, you'll know when you find just the right one!

Lynzi,

So glad the baby bunnies are doing well, especially after the last heartbreak. Good thing mama bun came home from her little excursion...just in time to have her babies!

Pharm,

Happy to know your tots are mixing well with the terrorists. I'm hoping my day has almost arrived where I can merge my two "classes" permanently.

In a matter of fact, I'm going to head out to the pen now for some supervised mingling time with the biggies and littles!

Just stepped into the house for a min to drop the mail and my husband is inside watching some food show as always. He says "they were just preparing Silkie chicken!" I said don't get any ideas! Lol

Cute babies glad they are ok!
Haha I've heard of silkie dinners.

It neat that you mentioned Rowan because that's one of the names I mentioned to Travis already. He gave me the "I don't hate it, but not in love with it" answer. I thought it would be nice because his mom's maiden name was Rowe.

No insulation needed. Their feathers keep them toasty warm. Mine are in a hoop coop covered with canvas. All they need is a draft free house with good ventilation and to be kept dry.

We get snow and temps during the winter that can " name="user_yui_3_7_3_1_1370395353388_1449">

I just saw the pics of your coop and you've got some very good designs.  I was wondering how to ventilate my hoop coop and you've showed me how.  Thanks.  Strangely enough my rooster in the hoop coop doesn't get frost bit while the ones in the coop have.  Mine is covered with three tarps.  I had two but added a dark green one last fall.

Will be looking at your coop again too.

Tanks rancher !! It's a work in progress and I need to update some pics but I have to say it was a fun build. And it can be moved easily enough. I had to move mine since it was in a low spot and wouldn't dry out but hopefully in a couple weeks that problem area will be filled in and I can move it back :)

Help...not sure what to do or if there's much to do about/with my Polish Roo'let with a crooked beak!?!? It's progressively gotten worse, not sure if you can see, but half of his nostril is caved in and the shaded part of his beak is gradually twisting. His beak is still lined up for the time being, but it doesn't close all the way anymore. What should I do with him?? Any feedback or suggestions would be appreciated. He's one of a few Roo's in my bunch of backyard babies this spring. Thanx in advance.....
