NY chicken lover!!!!

I got my bunny back!!! The kids came in yelling she had bounced back into the yard and my husband ran out there and got her! She's still too fat too so she mustn't have delivered her kits yet. Back home safe and sound!

Whoa! Just in time!

I've always liked the name Logan for a boy.

Many years ago I read a book that had a girl named Rowan in it. I thought it had a lovely sound to it and was unique, which I like when choosing names for kids. It's feminine but strong.

Pondering your child's name is a wonderful thing. As you are well aware, you'll know when you find just the right one!

TOB
My Niece is named Remy. I absolutely hated that name at first, but it has so grown on me and now fits her to a "T". It's cute but still classy and will still be a good name as an adult.
it forward.
Ugh...my neighbor called to inform me that there is a family of foxes living under the shed of my other neighbors property...the house is abandoned and I guess he's seen them coming and going. What should I do? I have had pictures of the fox on my game cam but they haven't yet bothered the chickens...
In the interim, play a radio in the coop/run area on a talk show. I have mine set on a sports news station, so it's mainly male voices.

My broody, Blackie, is still continuing to set on her eggs. 4 full days so far with no budging. She's even sweet and really doesn't bite when I remove other eggs (I do have her eggs marked with Sharpie). I use a stick, and as fast as I can roll them out from under her, she rolls them back under her with her beak. We play tug-of-war every afternoon. lol I don't want to risk moving her, so I am enclosing her area off from the rest so that she won't be bothered by other hens. She'll have her own feed and water and area to stretch. It's taking some doing, as I have made some framing with 2 x 1's and am using chicken wire for the top and bird netting for the sides.
She was off her nest yesterday for a quick feed and poop in the morning and I noticed her poop has roundworms. Should I be worried? I hate to treat her (Ivermectin) while she's sitting on eggs. But I'm worried the roundworms will harm her more because she's sitting. Should I treat her?

Dummy me, treats, and then fail to treat again in 2 weeks and the worms come right back. I've been doing ACV with mother in their water daily, and it has seemed to help, but I still find them once in awhile.

Thanks to lynzi777 cass and armorfireladyfor all the info is really helpfull and i'am going to try to figure out the pic situation as of right now my coop is set up like a 8x8 pole barn 2x4 framing with roof tin with a slanted roof and my run is 12foot in length by 8foot wide with 1 inch welded wire and a chicken wire top to keep hawks out

you will feel worse after she feeds one of your chickens to her kits

Agreed, Animal control probably won't do anything, you could call an pest control guy there are those in NY that will help you out. Though your starting fee is around $200 and it goes up from there. I know because I had him inspect my house and yard and let him set up traps so I could clear out my yard my house had been abandoned for some time so I had a lot of work to do. Now anything comes my way is going down! And since you already have an established property just kill it, Humans, Foxes, and Raccoons are chickens biggest predators among many others, why risk it?

I can't wait to see this coop.

It neat that you mentioned Rowan because that's one of the names I mentioned to Travis already. He gave me the "I don't hate it, but not in love with it" answer. I thought it would be nice because his mom's maiden name was Rowe.

Sometimes when babies are born( i almost said hatched[OMG]!) they look like a name!! Eventually they all get named!! Have fun!!

Do chickens molt at this time of year? Either that is happening around here or a chicken exploded in my coop.

Egg counts waaaay down. Like from 10 a day to 2 a day. Not cool.

I came home to 2 little chicks wandering around looking for their momma. I picked them up and put them back with their "momma". The tiniest of them jumped back out and went outside to find it's "momma". And I mean TINY. It followed the clucking of the other momma hen that was out wandering with her three 2 week old chicks. That hen adopted the little thing. It was so small it couldn't jump over the edge of the nest box the momma was cuddling with her older chicks. I have to boost it in. LOL

We didn't find out the sex of the baby, just had 2 boy and 2 girl names picked out. When little girl was born, she didn't look like our first choice of Taylor Rose. But Abigail Celeste fits her perfectly. She looked like it. And now she is a red-headed spit-fire called Abby. She is my mini-me with daddy's short attention span and hyper activity lol.

I have a few hours to myself this morning, where to start? I think I'm going to put some plants in my garden that were given to me and check on the peeps. Some quiet time is always nice and I don't get much of it.
Quiet time is great when you have kids it is even better as it is rare to get. Enjoy Tab.

Congrats! What colors ?

well let me know if you want a few, i still get eggs every day.

my recommendation is an R-COM, I can't recommend them enough, to my knowledge they are the only bator that actually adjusts the humidity, all others just monitor it and you have to adjust the humidity. My hatch rates are great. They are expensive but worth every penny.
I took your recommendation and purchased an R-COM but I was also given a Hovabator and a Little Giant from my friend who used them once to try to hatch and she lost power so only got 2 babies and said enough. So I now have more than enough incubators and actually will take you up on that offer of eggs if you can wait until next week when this old bird is getting her wing out of the sling had shoulder replacement surgery today.
I would move a couple of those broodies into walmart storage tubs without lids or into spackle type (home depot) buckets with half lids on thier sides to open up some nest space for the girls still laying
I also get the buckets and lids at TSC

I assumed everyone would say to get rid of them but I feel bad...

I would feel better if there weren't babies involved. What would happen if I called animal control?

I apologize for my earlier comment. I wasn't serious about starting a fire and I sometimes forget times have changed. I never considered anyone would actually do such a thing.

One thing to consider though is avoid having places where foxes and the like can build a den. Such as this which rabbits have made a home and will be dismantled before summers end. By learning about some animals we can clear areas and conditions that might become homes and dens.

Morning All,
Can't believe how much cooler it's gotten the last few days. Kinda nice....Anywho, my silkies are 10 wks old today and still no signs as to any roos. One was crowing a week or so back but hasn't since. They're getting so big and taking up a lot of space in this coop now that they're in with the adults. I think I'm going to have to do some altering on that coop to expand their run a little bit.

Picking up a bearded dragon for my son today. I wanted it to be a surprise for the last day of school which isn't until next Friday, but if I want one I gotta get it from this person today. So I either try everything in my power to hide it from him until then, or I come up with some story to make him think it's not here to stay permanently unless he continues to do well in school for the next week and a half. (He has a really tough teacher for a first grader, she's strict and has the most 3 wild boys in her class out of the 3 classes. So my son, although not one of them, he's been following in their footsteps every time they get out of control which has gotten him into some trouble throughout the year) Needless to say I really dont like his teacher and I cannot wait for this school year to be over! He's trying really good to behave and I see that so this is an early birthday gift/finish of first grade surprise.
Lynzi tell him you are taking care of it for me cause I had surgery on my shoulder today and can't do it
