NY chicken lover!!!!

No reply until after 11:30, so it's a no go. May try for another day, we'll see.

Meanwhile, took a pic of the kits:

Ignore earlier request of colors for some stupid reason I thought the babies came out with full coat. Must be the pain meds from surgery yeah that's the deal blame it on the meds LOL
I have a shed but no electricity to run to it and they need a heat/UVB lamp over their cage. I'm not meeting with person now, don't know when my husband is going to be off again to make the trip by myself so I guess it worked out. I'll just get one from the pet store next Friday while he's at school. Call around the day before to make sure they have one for me.
you might want to call now in case the have to order u one
It neat that you mentioned Rowan because that's one of the names I mentioned to Travis already. He gave me the "I don't hate it, but not in love with it" answer. I thought it would be nice because his mom's maiden name was Rowe.
I like both the names for a girl and the ducks are adorable

Surgery done on this old birds wing got me a nice shiny metal shoulder. Although this one handed typing is for the birds.

Rancher- You were right pain wasn't that bad it does ache some but nothing that I cant deal with.

Now that I got all these incubators does anyone have Duck eggs for hatching?
I did tell hubby I would hatch some ducks for him if I got another incubator and I think 3 more qualifies for that besides I keep seeing all these baby duck pictures and they are adorable.

The poults say "yo." They're cute little beasts, and bold as can be. They run to me when I approach their makeshift brooder (we're setting up the big pen this weekend, but this is good for a couple of days), and think everything is food for them. I have to unload some of them eventually, as sixteen poults are cute, but sixteen grown turkeys would be excessive, especially the Bronzes. I'd totally do it, but it would be excessive.

Right now, though, it's a brooder full of fuzzballs!

There is one poult with a spraddle leg off to the side. She's now in a rubber band and tape hobble, and it seems to be helping already. Hooray for BYC threads that are informative! I also hear peeps coming from my Orp's Brahmapapa eggs, and see at least one pip, so some of them made it through their ditzy mother's forgetting which nest was hers and letting them cool off a couple of times. It's baby day!

So it looks like 7 eggs are growing & 5 were clears . We added 3 of our own just for fun .
I am approaching lock down time ..Any suggestions ? How do I know the time is right ? will the egg be full except the air sac ?
So I just make sure there is extra water inside & I dont touch or turn the eggs right after the 19th day ? Do you leave a hatched chick in with the unhatched ? How Long ?
in the archives of BYC there is an article "chooks chicks cheat sheet" that really does a great job of explaining how to put eggs thru lockdown in a styro bator, she does a better job of explaining than i could ever do. I highly recommend reading it. good luck with the hatch.

as far as how long to leave hatched chicks in the bator before moving to a brooder, they can do fine up to two days after hatch, the only reason i remove them is they soil the remaining eggs and can sometimes annoy the poor chicks that are pipping and zipping. if you have to open the bator make it very quick or it can cause the humidity to go down and that can affect the remaining eggs,

We didn't find out the sex of the baby, just had 2 boy and 2 girl names picked out. When little girl was born, she didn't look like our first choice of Taylor Rose. But Abigail Celeste fits her perfectly. She looked like it. And now she is a red-headed spit-fire called Abby. She is my mini-me with daddy's short attention span and hyper activity lol.
So true! You never know what your going to get!

Very cute congrats on the babies.
Do chickens molt at this time of year? Either that is happening around here or a chicken exploded in my coop. Egg counts waaaay down. Like from 10 a day to 2 a day. Not cool. I came home to 2 little chicks wandering around looking for their momma. I picked them up and put them back with their "momma". The tiniest of them jumped back out and went outside to find it's "momma". And I mean TINY. It followed the clucking of the other momma hen that was out wandering with her three 2 week old chicks. That hen adopted the little thing. It was so small it couldn't jump over the edge of the nest box the momma was cuddling with her older chicks. I have to boost it in. LOL

yup they can. I have some that are right now

Morning all. Wonderfully cool this morning. I will take this any day over that nasty heat and humidity we had.

STony--love that movie!

Cass--unless you have a new breed of chicken, yea they are molting.

Hen--love the fuzzy butt pics.

Dh had some leftover hay from a project at his sportsmens club so he put some in the runs of the big coops last night. Everyone is now busily digging through the new stuff to see what its about and if there is anything good in there. They are like kids at christmas. He filled the nest boxes as well. Girls are still sitting tight on their eggs. Since they will be raising them, I can clean up the dog/brooder cage and put it away along with the smaller cages and have my cellar back. busy day off today.
