NY chicken lover!!!!

I think it is possible they are straight leghorns ? I thought they were amber links Pure white ..No other color

I got them from TSC..they were in a amber link bin also

I excepted 5 months ..but 4 months seems too early
good luck with your job .

supposed to be amber links ..they are pure white .
if I think of it I put in a solid ice block that I froze ...should do that now ..I have a fan in their run today ..Tomorrow too probably
Here are the young ladies

I noticed one of their vents was weird looking today when I put them to bed ...Probably the one that laid a egg ...I think she has a slightly prolapsed vent .
it says somewhat Common in early layers .
Soak her bum in warm water , push back in , apply honey or witch hazel or prep H once daily
I think it looks more like Cornish rock hens. This is just going by googleing Cornish rock hens and googleing leghorns. The pics i'm comapreing them to seem leghorns are skinnier and longer tail feathers. I have a leghorn from TSC. They sold it as a silkie was my first buy of chickens and I didn't know better so I bought 2. I only have one now but mine is a lot skinnier. My girl is only around 14 weeks right now less red in comb and wattles.

This is the most recent pic I have which is almost 2 months old. may 9th 2013. I'll try to remember to take a new pic tomorrow to compare.

So much happening, I can't quite keep it all straight, but I am glad that the whole flock won't have to be sacrificed, but only sadly the one hen. And Lynzi, will you find another job, or be a full time Mom and chicken farmer?

But the one that sticks with me is the sadness for Heni and her family. Definitely, prayers will be sent. I am trying to value the time I have had with people rather than only regretting that the time doesn't continue. It falls very short in a situation like this with a vibrant young adult just starting on their path. So sorry. Prayers.

My BYC flock, if you could spare a moment to send up a prayer or good wishes to my family, I'd appreciate it tremendously. My 22-year-old nephew was killed in an accident on Sunday. My sister and brother-in-law, my other nephews, my family, and all his friends and loved ones are devastated - I'm asking all my friends to pray for us or send good thoughts our way, as the support is so greatly needed and appreciated.

A tiny bright spot in the darkness of the past few days - last night, all four duck eggs under my hen hatched into beautiful baby Rouens. They're for my youngest nephew, who at five years old has lost the big brother who was such a huge part of his life. Such a simple thing, yet so meaningful in times like these.
consider it done Hen. My daughter was nearly 17 when she died. I personally know the devistating feeling. My thoughts are with you and yours. And above all I am very sorry.

congrats on the ducks!

Morning all. Lost another chick last night. I am now down to two. These two were bouncing around like ping pong balls this morning in the coop. Hoping they stay that way. I am letting nature take its course with these chicks. Its hard to do because you never want to see them die but to raise an unhealthy chick to adulthood would only make for unhealthy adults and poor breeding stock. The mosquitoes are out and I am the walking buffet every time I go out to take care of the cheeps. All the cheeps look good and the girls are not missing Olaf at all. Now that he is gone, my older girls are letting the terrorists know that they are the owners of this real estate. Nothing serious, just some posturing and chasing. The divas are also teaching the tater tot boys some manners as well. So far they have been listening.

Hen---my condolences to you and your family on the loss of your nephew. I know how deeply felt that pain is. I will send prayers your way.

Rancher---congrats on a new grandson! How exciting! Are you going to get him his own chickens???

Nice pics of the little blue silkie chicks. You have a nice line there.

Thanks for all your support during my frantic time of troubles. Its a real killer when you are trying to figure out whats wrong with your cheeps and only the horrible things fits the symptoms. I am sad that I missed something so small that cost my pretty hen her life.

Another hot day and I am off to work. Lynzi--enjoy your vacation. I hope you get a good severence package.

Henicillan,
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I will be thinking of you all.

Lynzi,
Glad your days of the stressful job will be coming to an end. Keeping my fingers crossed for a package you deserve!

Nutty,
Sorry about your hen. Hopefully the new chicks help keep your mind off it.
As for the puppy, I'm so glad it found you! Things happen for a reason. Often times, an animal who is rescued like that become the most amazing pets. It's like they know what you have done for them. I'm glad you stepped in to have the others rescued also.

Gramma,
Now you have me wondering if my "tetra tints" are really leghorns. Jlaw, my girls look identical to your pic of your leghorn. I'm just hoping for brown eggs, as it seems like that's what people want around here.

Being cloudy, it's a bit cooler today. Peeps seem to be happy. My broody, Blondie, is still holding tight to her nest. Another week and a half to go!

I've been busy gearing up for Winestock 2013 at Three Brothers Winery this Saturday. I have 4 batches of goat milk cream left to make, plus fresh facial wash and night cream and foot scrub. I have been busting my rear end on this show! 2000 people expected in a 5 hour time frame.

Heni ~ Sooo very sorry to hear of the loss in your family. Many thoughts and prayers go out to you all during this time.

Rancher - Congrats on having a new grandson in the family!
Lynzi, will you find another job, or be a full time Mom and chicken farmer?
The plan is to stay home, at least until both kids are in school full time. Even if I wanted to find another job, I would have to look into day care for my daughter and we all know how that story goes...

So I might as well stay home for the next two year and THEN if needed or I'm looking to get out of the house, I'll look for something to occupy my time.

Another nasty one out there today. Hope you all are staying cool. I cannot stand this sticky feeling anymore. I gotta clean out that duck coop today - not looking forward to that in this weather!

Nutty you found a puppy so awesome well that was quick.

Gramma I have 6 amber links 1 has a small plash of amber on her wings, 2 look like leghorns, and the 3 look like white Plymouth rocks. They are 18wks.

I'm super proud of myself seeing how my sunflowers are doing.

Thanks to all who were keeping their fingers crossed me-got my phone call this morning, got 60 days notice, and a full severance package! My last day of work is Aug 25th!! Unless of course we run out of work before then (which we will) I get to stay home and just get paid what I'm getting paid now.
