NY chicken lover!!!!

Hen-- I'm so sorry. I wish you and your family the best. I especially feel awful for your sister. Losing a child is a parent's biggest fear. I couldn't imagine being able to cope with it.

Nutty-- Sorry about the hen. Good luck with the new puppy

Rancher --Congratulations!

My BYC flock, if you could spare a moment to send up a prayer or good wishes to my family, I'd appreciate it tremendously. My 22-year-old nephew was killed in an accident on Sunday. My sister and brother-in-law, my other nephews, my family, and all his friends and loved ones are devastated - I'm asking all my friends to pray for us or send good thoughts our way, as the support is so greatly needed and appreciated.

A tiny bright spot in the darkness of the past few days - last night, all four duck eggs under my hen hatched into beautiful baby Rouens. They're for my youngest nephew, who at five years old has lost the big brother who was such a huge part of his life. Such a simple thing, yet so meaningful in times like these.

I am sorry for your loss.

Bree - don't remember when you got the chicks. I'm getting ready for another trade, but folks must take the whole bunch roos and all. Read my words. NO NEW COOPS. But I am thinking of adding on to the BR run. Perhaps three more panels. A friend came with two 24" by ? rolls of poultry wire. Bet there is at least 100'.

Lynzii - hope things work out with the job thing. 'sides why work to send your kids to someone else to raise. If I had it to do over again I would never have. When #3 came along DD quit.

Busy day today again. I feel bad for the BR's since I don't let them out when I'm not home. DD was here part of the day for a funeral. We're confident she's in heaven so not to sad, except for missing her.

Work again tomorrow for orientation. I hope they pay me for it. Busy day running old folks to their appts. And cleaning out the storage room. Lord have mercy I've only been there a week. I do like it and every one is very nice.

Now the EE in the Del coop hatched anther Del chick and I hope it survives. The last one did not,but she had hatched a little one and after another hen took it over got in the nest to hatch the rest of the eggs she was on. This is the one I rescued and put in a brooder with another since it was so small it keep going through the chicken wire.

There are now three broodies in the EE coop. The BR hen decided to go and she took the nest box from an EE, who moved onto a wooden egg in the third.

SO , I took two eggs from the EE in the Del coop and gave them to her and she quickly tucked them under herself. I have no idea when or if they will hatch.

I am so tired. Up at six without and alarm clock.

Well friends if I missed anyone and all, know I think about ya 'll.

Take care and be well,

Rancher

Wow, so much has happened since I was last on!

Pharm - I'm so sorry about your hen. Flystrike got one of my favorite drakes last year and it's hard. Just remember that flystrike comes on suddenly - think 8 hours suddenly.

Lynzi - Congrats on the severance package and getting to ditch a stressful job.

Nutty - So glad you rescued that little puppy. Pitbulls can be great when raised properly. Sadly, many people choose not to do so.

Henicillin - I am so sorry for your loss. I know the pain will never quite go away but eventually you will be able to look back at all the good memories and smile and laugh.

Rancher - Congrats on the new grandson!

Sorry if I missed anybody, it's hard to keep it all straight!

Looks like my duck is considering going broody. I caught her last night hollowing out a nest at the base of tree just outside the run, and carefully arranging leaves and pine needles just so. Then she laid a nice big egg in it. So we'll see. Penny's eggs are due soon, the 1st or 2nd. She's on 11 currently, but she did have two early quitters already and I haven't candled since then, so who knows how many will hatch.

I am so very sorry. I believe that he is in very loving arms now. Our prayers will be for all of you. On a brighter note, Congratulations on the duck eggs. sue

I am so PO'd at my 15 yr old son...
He sometimes likes to do some very childish things... so he thought he was being funny when he repeatedly slammed his hand on the railing of the stairs in the garage and yelled, trying to scare us. Not thinking that Blondie's brooder is on the other side of the half wall. Within 2 minutes the kids ran and got me to tell me she was eating an egg. She must have jumped from being startled, broke an egg and then ate it.
That leaves 6 eggs out of (I think) 9 I started with.

At halfway through the incubation, should there be a lot of yolk left? She must've already eaten whatever chick there may have been. Heartbroken. I finally got him to admit he should have thought about what he did. At 15 you would think he'd know better.
