Apple.

Chickens shared some kind of little creature this morning, probably a toad. Ewww... about 20 of them shared it. It was mass chaos. lol

I'm working on an essential oil spray to help minimize bugs in the coop. Hoping to find something to help with flies (naturally). So far I've mixed peppermint, tea tree, cassia, clove leaf, rosemary and 1 or 2 others. If nothing else, it smells really good in the coop! I sprayed it in the nest boxes and the girls don't seem to care. They get right in to lay after spraying.

Hoping my young girls get laying SOON! Feed is costing me a small fortune! I switched back to TSC layer crumble. I was using Purina Flock Raiser for a bit, but it was too powdery, and the girls didn't seem to lay as well on it.

Off to get ready for my next craft show in Geneseo. Three Brothers Winery went super well last week, so I'm pumped about business again. Crankin' out the goat milk cream!

FINALLY, THE SUN!!! YAY!!!!!!!!

that is one cool teardrop!

Stony the camper is coming along beautifully although I must report I am not a camping person don't like to go without the comforts mainly my running water, indoor toilet and shower, and my internet my idea of camping was getting a cabin at Darien Lake.

Rancher I was showing the husband some pictures of Silkies and he says they look like miniature Llamas or Alpacas

Duck fence was finally finished today and I moved the ducks out to their duck house let them run around for a while in their new fence and they loved it. Moved 3 of the teeny boppers in with the big girls tonight one hopped right up with the rooster and his girls but the other two were kinda off by themselves but at least the big girls didn't pick on them. Tomorrow may move a few more of the teeny Boppers in with the big girls.
Spent an hour tonight cleaning two of the bators out as I had a rotten egg explode and of course it was a large duck egg so even more mess Yuck Yuck and then I decided smart move would be to candle all the bators and of course I dropped an egg in one of the bators and cracked it making a mess. Good news is that all the rest of my duck eggs are doing good one of them I could see the little duck webbed foot.

I have one bator going on Lock down tomorrow so can't wait to see what I hatch from that one. Last 2 hatches were small as they were my first hatches I started out with 20 eggs ended up with 16 that were fertile and from 16 eggs I ended up with 14 chicks that are all doing great.

Well have to see Dr. again tomorrow for the shoulder although I think it is just to suck insurance money not like he is going to tell me anything different than 7 days ago already told me I need to have surgery again and I told him after the 9th of August as I have a class starting next Monday have to make the money to pay all of his copays LOL!.

Hope everyone stays dry!
14 out of 16 is a GREAT hatch !!!!

Well it's lock down today for me and I tried candling the eggs and didn't see any movement. Then again I couldn't see much of anything except a dark egg with very little light at bottom and the air cell at the top. Out of the 35 eggs I bought from random farms 7 are fertile and still with me except no movement that I can see. I just hope they too big or my light aint bright enough to see them move.

I had a weird dream that all my chicks hatched but my bator was out side at some park. When I looked at the chicks 3 was parakeets and the others was just flat chickes running around like roadkill flat with legs out bottom running around. It was super weird.

JLaw - Good luck with your hatch! I'm sure the eggs are fine - especially since you did a lot of research and have been paying attention to you humidity levels - unlike me with my first hatch!

Today is day 20 for the lone silkie egg under my splash hen. I actually took it away from her and put it in my incubator because the hen wasn't even laying on it! Silly girl. You would think with one egg she would make sure that thing was tucked in nice under her - nope! So since I don't have to spot to move her and she's still in with the three lavender teens and the black hen, I decided to do the rest on my own. I held it up to my ear and didn't hear any peeping yet, but when I candled it I saw the little bit it movement I could. I even did the water test and it made jerking movements in the water - that was cool. so it's still good. My incubator is at 50% humidity and 100 degrees but what I did was found a bowl that could fit in my incubator, cut one piece of egg carton to hold the egg in, placed a wet paper towel in the bottom of the bowl, placed the egg in the egg carton on top of the wet paper towel, placed my hygrometer in the bowl with it and my humidity in that bowl is going up. the sides of the bowl almost reach the top of the incubator so I don't think it's messing with the humidity in the rest of the incubator. Even so, this egg should be hatching soon, like tomorrow soon. Keeping my fingers crossed. I just didn't want to risk having it hatch under mama and it getting trampled by the rest of the chicks seeing as how they've been sticking pretty close to her. I'm wondering if they think something is wrong with her because she hasn't moved in weeks?!? LOL

Edited to add: I also candled the orp mix eggs (even though it's only day 3) and I DID see some veins in a few. Others had air sacks and the yolk was larger and not a perfect ball so I'm thinking those are beginning to develop. So far so good!!!
