NY chicken lover!!!!

Evening all. What a day at work. Why do people feel the need to be disagreeable to the person waiting on them? It doesnt get them what they want any faster. Came home to dh telling me we had another chick show up. I was like what??? How??? Nobody is sitting on eggs. Turns out that It is a robin chick that fell out of a nest in the tree out back. Apparently a hawk had been out there earlier. Perhaps it was trying to get the parents or the chicks. No sign of the parents. Dh put it in a washtub filled with straw and has been feeding it wet cat food mixed with chick feed and earthworm. It has tiny feathered wings, a naked body and eyes closed. Not sure what will happen. Probably wont make it but he is trying.

I guess the baby silkies were giving momma fits by escaping outside the fence and running back in. Little hooligans. Kids always have to give their parents a hard time.

Not looking forward to the heat all week.

Hello. Anyone remember me? LOL Verizon had an entire server fry and, of course, it was the one in my area. I was force offline for days. I was starting to have withdrawal.

Now my question oh wise ones. Mean Marge is totally bloated in her abdomen. I brought her inside, put her in front of the A/C for a while (Yes, yes, I actually brought a chicken in to cool off) and then I put her in some warm water to soak her owie. Then I massaged her belly. Much later that day she laid an egg. She always lays an large Olive Egg. She eats. She walks around. She lays an egg almost every day. She hates on the other hens. She roosts in the rafters. Her belly hangs almost to the ground. What, if anything, do I do?

Congrats to all the new chicken grandparents around here. Hope everyone's hatches continues to be fruitful.

Hi Cass , Glad to hear your back on ..
Can you see a sore spot or owie ?
wrap her in a towel make sure you cover her head ..& feet ...nails give great scratches ..I have the arms to prove it .
She should let you work on her then . you might need Ray ? to hold her ..while you work on her
can you lance it ? . It sounds like it is filled with fluid . I would have another towels ready if it is .
Honey draws out inflamation ...after it is lanced put some honey on it ..it worked best with my young hen who had a inflamed vent she is pretty normal now .

Jlaw and Lynzi Congrats on the hatches I have gotten so far 5 olive eggers and 1 silkie who if this one makes it the name is going to be Lucky. It started pipping yesterday morning and it had a good size hole but then it stalled nothing the rest of yesterday or today. Went to get feed and the rest of stuff for son's graduation party come home still nothing and now you can hear only an occasional faint cheep whereas it was very loud so I decide to help it and good thing I did the membrane was glued to this poor baby it came out and you would swear it had been playing in glue so I let it be in the bator for a while and decide to take it down to the brooder with the new OEs and I checked on it a couple of times and it was hopping around and very active. Tonight as we are putting all birds away and feeding and watering them my son yells chick is almost dead so I go in and this silkie is in the waterer soaking wet, cold, and barely breathing so I run with it up to the house get out the hair dryer and start blow drying it. Little chick starts chirping so when it was mostly dry I put it back in the bator. It is now walking around knocking things out of its way in the bator.

On the Bully Roo Front I put some hens in with him and he is fine now too busy doing a mating dance for the girls to worry about the other Roo. His Hens on the hand need their wings clipped as they keep flying out of the fence and trying to roost in the trees.

Just heard lots of chirping and now have a little Maran Chick in with the silkie chick.

Tomorrow is sons Graduation Party wish it wouldn't be so humid but we will enjoy any way. Hope everyone stays cool
