But he's not suffering from some crazy gigantic disorder? I don't mind if it's normal for him to be large but I was terrified that I bought the Andre the Giant of chickens.
LOL, love Duane's name too...hope he turns out to be a gentle giant for you.

Greetings! I am about 45 minutes northwest of Albany. We are newbies and just started our first flock. They are an assortment and are about 8 weeks old now! Loving BYC!!

Thanks for tips on the towel-wrap, Gramma and Armor... That's a good idea, as I have been scratched and those scratches usually get red and ugly before healing.

Marq and/or anyone with eye drop experience:

With regard to the eye drops, I need good dosing instructions. I am going to head out shortly and purchase a bottle, as I have errands out towards TSC anyway. If the drops are for cows, I would worry about how to properly dose a bird. I will ask at the store, but please share your advice if you've used them. Also, I would think I should treat the other eye, just in case? Not sure about that thought...

Thx again.

what I had was an ointment. I cleaned my hands, put some ointment on my finger and dabbed it in the corner(really any part I came close to) of the eye. I did not worry about dosing, but getting enough in the eye to do any good. Good luck.

Thx, vmd. The dosing of the pink eye spray went pretty well both times today. I'm sure hoping it helps.

Also hoping my horse's eye clears soon. He gets this every year or so. Poor fella.

Thought I would share my BCM, George, & newly found voice this morning. He tried a couple weeks ago & it was really bad. This morning he was crowing up a storm. Hopefully since its not loud the neighbors dont hear him
He needs to go back to Sue this week since he started crowing. I am not allowed to have roosters but no one was the wiser since he didnt crow, I am going to miss him. My first Roo and he is so much fun to watch. I am going to miss him

Morning all. Another dreary day today with more rain expected. Because it has been hot, humid and lots of rain, I decided to treat the coops again as a preventative against mites. I sprayed down the two big coops with permeth and then added generous helpings of de to the litter and also permeth powder to everything. I have not seen anything on the cheeps nor any signs yet of anything on the coops but after the nightmare of last fall of trying to get rid of mites for a month, I figure an ounce of prevention is much better. I have been checking everyone frequently as I know how fast things can appear.

Elanor has gone broody and sits in the box now. She is one of my oldest hens and is a very good girl. However, I have no eggs to give her. Olaf has been gone too long so I doubt any of the other girls eggs are fertile. Elanor suffers from bumblefoot so this is a good time for her to rest.

The terrorist coop is growing back their feathers now that Olaf is gone and they dont go as far freeranging either. Still nosey and demanding but this weather has production down a little bit.

My tater tots are getting real big. The boys (roger and bill) now stand taller than the divas(my 3 year old hens) and they will just be 4 months old. I think they are going to be big boys. The pullets are almost as tall as the big girls and have some nice weight on them. I was watching them all out freeranging yesterday and had to laugh when I saw gladys run over and put a stop to roger and bill doing their little rooster standoff. Gladys doesnt tolerate bad behaviour from anyone and she is not a hen to mess around with! It was funny watching her taking on the two boys, who tower over her, and putting them in their place. I have to say, the boys have been pretty laid back so far.

My silkie babies are growing like weeds and both girls are being good momma to the chicks. Legolas is trying to be a good dad even though he sometimes steps on them in his enthusiasm of trying to defend them. Boy, I say boy, come over here and let me show you how to be a rooster!

Pyxis---keeping my fingers crossed on your hatch. Baby pics please!

Welcome to all the newbies. May the flock be with you.
