Greetings! I am about 45 minutes northwest of Albany. We are newbies and just started our first flock. They are an assortment and are about 8 weeks old now! Loving BYC!!

Whereabouts? I'm in Saratoga, also about 45 minutes from albany. If you need any more chickens, let me know! :p

My poor chickens... I put them in at 6:30 b/c it looked like we were about to get NAILED by the weather. Half hour later and it looks like it's staying south of us. Might as well just leave them cooped up now! I just feel bad in this humidity.

Ugh, this rain is driving me and the birds crazy. Even my goose is getting annoyed. Poor Penny is trying so hard to keep her chicks dry but she can only do so much and now I have ten small balls of mud running around.

My silkies went into lockdown and they're due on Friday - I can't wait! I miss having my silkies so much. I still have dreams sometimes that I'm out with the birds and the neighbor's stupid dog shows up and starts grabbing my birds. Sigh.

And, I finally finished building my A-Frame tractor, so the workshop chicks are outside at last! Now I can finally start work on my new big coop. I've decided to go with a hoop coop and I'm gonna make the run the same way, so the birds will have a nice big coop and a run that's protected from the darn ravens that keep stealing my duck eggs.

Also, welcome to all the newcomers!

For eye problems - a friend had some really great stuff called something like one drop one eye one time. Supposed to be for pigeons, but she read it worked for chickens, and tried it on a bird with a horrible swollen eye. It has no ingredients on it (anyone know what's in it?) and within two days the eye was 100% better. I had given her everything I could think of to try on that eye and this was the only stuff that worked (I've got people eye meds, vet-rx, terramycin for the cats, etc). I have a personal interest as that eye was swollen for weeks and this stuff brought it down immediately and I'd love to know how. :)

I've read similar stories on that stuff and the pigeon people really like it. Still wanna know what's in it!

Here's a thread where the stuff was mentioned wrt chickens:

Hi Featherz. Thanks for the info. I will check out that link for sure. [EDIT: Just read the post and found the product online. I have pasted the link into a message to myself that I'll save for future use...thanks again.]

I have gotten two dosings of Pink Eye spray into Gertie's eye today. Purchased at TSC and is wicked expensive, but I love this bird. She has been a good patient (relatively) and I was actually able to gently pull down her bottom lid and give a gentle spray directly into the eye, which seems to have a bit of yellow substance in the corner.

Gertie actually seemed perkier to us today and I'm hoping whatever it is will clear soon. Meanwhile, she grooms herself and shows an interest in food, so I am trying not to freak myself out too much. Say a little prayer for Gertie, please?

Crazy enough, my horse and one of his barn buddies are also are in different stages of a swollen, weepy eye. This squirt administration method is good, because it never comes near the affected area and I can take the bottle down to the barn and squirt my horses eye as well. Hopefully, this works. I realize it may have nothing to do with conjuctivitis, but figure it's a good place to start. The fluid can also help clear any debris that might be irritating the eye.

STY .... my house, at times, especially when I am with my chickens when I should be cleaning.

I'm with the goose - this weather STINKS! Good luck with the Silkies! I hope everything goes well. Have fun getting the hoop coop going, too! Lots going on!

ChickPrincess,

I also put my big girls in the coop earlier today, because they are sissies about even a drop of rain. The younger birds don't care, so they got to stay out and I got home from my son's baseball game just in time to get them in before another t-storm hit. It's booming now... sigh....................
