NY chicken lover!!!!

This is soo cute ...One of my baby roos voice is changing too ...He sounds like a broken squeeky toy ...LOL

Yes me too .my feet are always cold ...I dont heat the coops ..either
Wild Birds can do as they wish .If they are hot they can go places they can go to cool off ..Trees , bushes , Water , etc .
Chickens Dont have a choice they are cooped up in a man made prison without options
not true. See I'm smart. I build runs /coops in the shade. For the birds that aren't free range. See when I built my coops I thought about things like heat, sun, cold, wind etc.

Morning All,
Just wasted the first 10 mins of my work day watching two chicks hatch from one egg on youtube. Pretty cool...

Xovan ~ Sorry I have no advice for the bird, except what others have said already. And definitely looks like it needs some kind of wrap around it's neck! What is it exactly that happened to the bird?? Did it get attacked?

Ha! And because of you, I just did the same thing. Pretty neat that they survived. I've never tried to hatch a double yolker but I just might next time.
Coffee's done. Time to make my rounds. Stay cool today. Supposed to be the worst day of the week.

NOOK-NOOK,

was it you that just posted a recently completed pen with the metal roofing?  It looks FANTASTIC.  What a lot of nice, shady room for your flock.  Nice job!

QUESTION FOR ALL WITH REGARD TO THIS UNGODLY HEAT AND HUMIDITY:

Does anyone use a fan in their coop(s) ??

I have a heavy, safe extension cord plugged into an outdoor outlet nearby for now and therefore have the capability of running a fan for the girls.  The coop, despite 2 windows and a large screen door, still gets pretty hot.  We use fans for the horses at the barn, but they SWEAT.  So the moving air cools them by evaporation.  Chickens don't sweat, so will the fan be a benefit?

Please weigh in.  I am worried about this heat.  I keep the birds outside as much as possible, but there are times when I have to have them inside due to the logistics of 2 (temporarily) separated flocks.

THANKS!

Yes TOB that was me....Thanks So Much, we are Very Excited about it!!

I have a box fan set on high in my coop for my broody. It's not as much to keep it cool as it is to move the unavoidable hot air around. I point it toward the roosts and at the broody nook when the girls are out in the run. Also at night if its cooler outdoors I put it in the doorway and the girls all crowd around the cool breeze. It's Soooo Funny. So my guess is they like it, and if they like it....that works for me!!

I know you are smart ..You thought it out before starting chickens ...Your Chickens have options
..
Not all of us planned / thought every thing out first . .My coop / run is in some shade ..Even in the shade it is 90 degrees .
Note : My husband is trying to hide the coop from the world ....so he put a wood fence on the one side where it faces the road .
He took off all the wire fence on that side .It was ON THERE when I got home ..ALL DONE
There is almost no air flow on that side of the run .
My idea was to leave that all open for free air flow (with a wire fence of course ) till it got colder & then close it in some more then ..
I HATE it ...the fan just makes it bearable ...it is still 90 in there .

I will reword this to say :
NOT ALL Chickens have a choice..some are cooped up in a man made prison without options

I believe Chris was talking about the Youtube video of the 2 chickens hatching from the one egg posted by Lynzi which I just watched and that was so neat. Now to get off my rump to see if my chickens are laying today in this heat or protesting.
