NY chicken lover!!!!

The poor flock is SO hot, as I'm sure all our flocks are. The dumb girls, though, go and hang out INSIDE where it's about 20' warmer than it is in the run. Dummies.
I can't understand it, but I'm getting eggs galore from them. My young girls are beginning to lay some tiny eggs. Yesterday I actually got 30 eggs from them all! There's 51 girls, and not everyone have begun to lay.

I hadn't had my coffee yet sorry, but I was talking about the video.
And I think we're ALL enablers

How's the khakis and ducklings doing?
Chris
The Khakis and ducklings are doing fine they are all swimming around in the pond right now with my other ducks.

Mine are actually being laying machines too I got eggs from hens I never have before.

Decided to take my chicks out of the brooder box today since it's so hot out and put them in the run behind the silkie coop with one of the baby bunnies. After freaking out about being in the grass for the first time, they seem to be loving it out there...

Also, meant to add...My lavender silkie roo started crowing this morning. Sounded like a trumpet! LOL Poor thing.

Our frizzles did the same thing but the Barnies hit the grass like they knew what they were doing. :)

QUOTE FROM NOOK NOOK:

Yes TOB that was me....Thanks So Much, we are Very Excited about it!!

I have a box fan set on high in my coop for my broody. It's not as much to keep it cool as it is to move the unavoidable hot air around. I point it toward the roosts and at the broody nook when the girls are out in the run. Also at night if its cooler outdoors I put it in the doorway and the girls all crowd around the cool breeze. It's Soooo Funny. So my guess is they like it, and if they like it....that works for me!!

Great to know, Nook Nook. Thanks, and I figure for hot air stuck in the coop, it can't hurt to ventilate. I haven't purchased one yet due to a crazy schedule and also indecision, but perhaps I will buy a modest sized fan to use on wretched days like today. I don't see how it can hurt, and very possibly can help at least make birds stuck inside the coop a little more comfortable and safe.

(Don't know why the quote feature didn't work, so I copied your prior message.)

Lynzi - Your little ones, furred AND feathered are precious!!!!

Lapeerian - So sorry about your sweet hen dying.

It was good of you to try to help.

Xovan - that is a very significant injury. I am too new at this to offer any specific advice, but common sense would tell me that you must keep the wound as clean as possible to prevent an infection and keep the others from roughing her up or pecking at her injury. Good luck. It sounds like others have given you some great tips and encouragement, based on their past experiences.

Miquwid - NICE HOOP COOP!!!!!!!!! I did a similar separation in my coop for my differently aged birds. It works for now.

I broke down tonight & removed the plastic window well covers I had on the south end of the coop. Poor hens are panting at bedtime. It's 81 now after dark but there is a wonderful breeze. Hopefully removing them will get some more breeze in the coop

I noticed my girls panting tonight. I'm going to get some vents at Home Depot this weekend and install them on the coop. It would be hard to install a real window so I hope the vents help.

Mine are panting too ...I bungii corded a window fan on the back of the coop to draw air out ..
I am thinking of closing the coop tomorrow night & letting them roost in the run it is cooler out there

I had to put the 2 girls in the coop again tonight ..when I came home they were roosting on the back of the nesting boxes ..
They are really too wide to fit there comfortably ...so they were making noise ...
