Of course I'm online now instead working (like I should be) researching of all this as it's peaked my interest. Mostly because I have silkies and I know thats how you get the sizzles - by breeding a frizzle to a silkie? What I'm wondering though is, does it matter which is bred to which to get the sizzle? Like the does the Roo have to be the frizzle and hen a silkie or vise versa? Or does it not matter and you'll still end up with a sizzle regardless?
I understand you dont want him attacking ..
but A Pvc pipe or a stick might kill him if you hit him ...break his neck
do you have a small cage to put him in ?
things you can do to Roos ..
Hold them upside down ...or give them a bubble bath ...
I'm curious so you think eucalyptus would work as well as lavender? I had read eucalypptus was a natural bug deterant & bought some oil and diluted it in water and spray the coop from time to time to deter the flies and mosquitoes.
Congrats on your first egg!!!!! Why wouldn't you be able to eat it? It has cooled down a lot since the start of the weekend, so I don't think it would be bad from heat or anything. I've had eggs collected in the nest box after a weekend and they were all fine.miquwid....
Funny (and cute) about the shoe laces! Also funny that yours is the 1st post I should read in catching up this morning because.......about that 1st egg....
GUESS WHAT???
Helen, my Marans, has laid her 1st egg!!!!!!!!!!!![]()

I guess my newbie instincts were right when I prepared those nest boxes!! That being said, Helen chose the dirty floor instead!!
(Not too surprised, though, as she would have to fly up onto the temporary pen to get to the nest boxes right now.)
Anyway, it is a lovely, rich brown with just a few dark speckles. It's small, but not tiny, and it feels just perfect when I hold it![]()
OK, here's my question [TOB always has questions!]
I found the egg this morning at 8:45 a.m. It was already cool to the touch. Is it likely it was laid this morning or yesterday? We were away for a long weekend, so I'm not sure when it was actually laid. Helen was the only one not out of the coop this morning, so that's what made me look around when I went in. Sure enough, EGG! Anyway, I'm not sure if it's safe to eat it as I don't know when it was laid. ??
Hope everyone is well. I will have to catch up on here as time allows!
Thx!

Congrats!
My girls always laid their first egg on the ground, even with a wooden egg in the nest box.
I'm sure its safe to eat, if the shell isn't cracked I just wash the egg off before I crack it.
