NY chicken lover!!!!

We've decided to get rid of more birds. Selling them at $4 each. Silver ameracauna, OE, buckeye, etc. (hens and roos). PM me if interested and want more info.

We want to be buying less feed. And I have more than enough to take care of right now.

Here here.. I keep thinking of doing the same thing.. I have some great friendly birds but just too many of them! :) Just haven't had time to get around to posting an ad.

That's the last time dh gets to flock sit for me.  I had somewhere to be all day yesterday so left dh in charge of feeding/watering and putting the flock to bed.  I reminded him to check their feed around 5 or 6 because they usually need a refill by then.
This morning both feeders were (I swear) licked clean and the flock just about bowled me over getting to food.  At least they still had water.
He forgot.  :smack   And confessed he didn't even count them last night.

ChickPrincess, is your DH related to mine? The only difference is that mine will try to tell me that he already did what I asked him to do. example: "Ron, did you count and make sure that Twinkle Toes got in?" Ron- yes, I did. Me- "then why is Twinkle Toes circling the outside the coop?" Ron- oh, maybe I didn't.

We sent 5 roo's to freezer camp today. It was easier today than the last. Yesterday I sold 5 hen's and a roo. That should help with the food bill. Now, hopefully I can sell 4 turkeys.

Sadly, on my downsizing, I have 2 cats that need to be Euthanized. One of them has cancer and the other I'm not sure. She's 13 and been sick off and on, losing weight. I need to take her to the vet this week but at her age I have reservations about putting a ton of money in her. It doesn't make the decision any easier.

Oh, yeah. Conversation this morning...
Me: Don't you remember me telling you to refill their feed around 5 or 6?
Dh: Nope.
Thank goodness I wasn't leaving instructions for the kids. We'd have CPS over here!

Speaking of recipes.    I'm looking for a recipe for canned green tomato pickles. My Mom used to slice the green tomatoes & piclkle them. Of course I never paid attention, canning was something I dreaded every summer. Now I wish I had paid attention.

Wish I read that sooner!! My neighbor dropped off some pickled green tomatoes with dill and they are amazing! I may have to go bug her for the recipe later.

I was at the farmers market yesterday and they had pickled pineapple. It was kind of good but I'm not much of a pickle eater.

When we go to the bookstore to have coffee and read magazines I see lots of recipes I'd like to try but can't afford all the magazines. My phone camera doesn't work well enough to take a picture of them.

I too am downsizing but not sure who to give up.

Of course I have the three BM youngsters and I suppose the two new chicks could go. Looks like mom is done brooding. I've also go the CR roo and considering him and two of the hens. My plan is to buy eggs next year to replace him. He is very big.

I've got on EE pullet going this week but exchanging her for an Araucana roo, to replace my Lav Amer roo that I hope is going soon too. If Nuttsy gets back to me. I've also got two non barred frizzle youngsters. The two newest chicks one black and one lavender. I'm not sure what the lavender is but I think it's an orp. I intend to keep that one for now.

That would be 3 bm roo, 1 ee pullet, 2 bm chicks one roo and one pullet , 2 non frizzle chicks, 2 other barred pullets, = 10 I doubt that will make much of a dent in the labor and feed. It will still mean 5 coops to snow blow to in the winter.

The BR hen that was broody did nothing and I tossed her only egg yesterday. She will get no more, even though she's still broody.

I have seen it on Ebay for $34. There is another site that has it for much less. Many Llama yarns aren't 100%. Some have cotton or wool.

I will buy more costly yarn if the project is worth doing. The Red heart stuff is okay for afgans but not baby sweaters or hats.

Believe it or not there is some "yarn" made from Bamboo.
I used to work on a horse farm that had Llamas. The owner told me that llama wool doesn't have the elasticity that others do and that is why it is usually a mix of wool. I don't know how true she was,but she seemed pretty knowledgeable. She did have 10 of them.
