NY chicken lover!!!!

Seen at CountryMax this week that they had stoneware crocks for sale. I know Tab had hers break and wasn't sure if anyone else was looking for them. And I'm sure they cost less than the arm and leg for an antique crock. I got a nice 15 the previous owner left behind :D.

That's the last time dh gets to flock sit for me. I had somewhere to be all day yesterday so left dh in charge of feeding/watering and putting the flock to bed. I reminded him to check their feed around 5 or 6 because they usually need a refill by then.
This morning both feeders were (I swear) licked clean and the flock just about bowled me over getting to food. At least they still had water.
He forgot.

And confessed he didn't even count them last night.

Was there a game on ? He obviously got distracted by something .
I have found husbands & kids ( even adult ones) dont take this responsibility as serious as we do .
I always check on the flock when I get home ( even if it is dark & I wake them up .) Then I know they are all set ..

Anyone have any moral support for a city born gal planning to send a chicken to freezer camp for the first time? (also advice welcome)
A sharp knife , a stump or table , A pot of boiling water , a place to cut it up ,
I catch the chicken & Let someone else chop off the head . once it is dead I have no problem processing it .

We've decided to get rid of more birds. Selling them at $4 each. Silver ameracauna, OE, buckeye, etc. (hens and roos). PM me if interested and want more info.

We want to be buying less feed. And I have more than enough to take care of right now.
Just gave away 10 roosters this weekend....like you, need to cut back on the $150 a month feed bill...

Speaking of recipes. I'm looking for a recipe for canned green tomato pickles. My Mom used to slice the green tomatoes & piclkle them. Of course I never paid attention, canning was something I dreaded every summer. Now I wish I had paid attention.
pm me if you want a recipe for bread & butter pickles. Thin sliced and both sweet & sour at the same time...passed down in my family.

Quote: That's true and llama wool is not that soft either. I use wool that is 75% wool, usually Merino, and 25 % something synthetic for babies. Its soft enough and you can wash whatever it is your making in the washing machine. Alpaca wool is softer than llama wool. I never use a fake yarn for anything. I feel that if I'm taking the time to make something, I am going to make it out of a good yarn.

Breella - my first time processing was difficult too - but remember that the ones you are going to eat - have a gillion times better life than the ones in cages that can't even stretch a wing. They had a good life. And despite the movement afterward - the light goes out in their eyes right away - so for me - I tell myself that means the end was quick. I hope that is the case.

No, but I'm going to start making him repeat my directions back to me, just like I do my 1st graders!

"So, tell me... what were my directions?".
