NY chicken lover!!!!

Well Silkie coop is clean....and back on the ground again.

My plan to have it elevated and up on a platform worked just as well as them being on the ground in the first place. Maybe it's just the excessive rain we've been getting too but it's like the pine shavings stayed dry less than when they were on the ground. Everytime I went out there they were soaked in the bottom part of the run. So forget that idea for now. They're back in the grass and in the sun. So hopefully the grass spot they are on now won't turn to dirt as quickly as it did in the other spot their coop was in. And when it does I'll just continue to throw shavings in there.

Took a break and came in to make lunch for the princess. Back out to clean coops #2 and 3!

It looks so nice outside. I have to clean the coop and work on getting the rest of my garden ready for winter, but my daughter decided that she would bring home a cold to share. The kids had it last week, the hubby got it sunday as he headed out for the week and I got it yesterday. I thought that I was out of the woods, but it snuck up on me. Got to love head colds. I'm glad that this week is going to be a great week so that I have more time to get out and get some things done. I really need to get the garden ready to be tilled up again. I'm going bigger for next year and want to get some compost worked in and covered before it starts to snow, but before I do any of it I have to get it cleared out and right now I just want to slather up with some vicks and go to bed.

Updated pics from my chicks that hatched last month. The coloring has changed a lot. Some how I have a barred or I guess partridge. These are from reds and white leghorn maybe my light Sussex passed some barring on or something?

is one on left a blue or lav? I always call them grey lol.

JLaw Cute chicks!!! Are these mixes or do you keep your breeds separated from each other? I know you mentioned you have a couple of varieties.

I've been contemplating adding an EE of some sort or any breed that lays a bluish egg.

Has anyone ever tried this feed for their chickens? Caught my eye on the side of the website when I logged in and made me think of my poor Gru who is not tail-less due to the molt he is going thru.

Mine all mingle atm. Those are from my blue ameraucana roo over tsc reds, white leghorn, and my light sussex. The 35 i just hatched have more differences in down color compared to what those chicks had a month ago.

I just got a bag of it this weekend, too early to report results. Mixing with the Hearty Hen. The Anconas are molting, tailless and have stopped laying completely. They stand around looking pitiful, so figured it couldn't hurt to try. And my GLW roo has been missing his flight feathers on his wings. CountryMax has an advertisement board with $2 off coupons, good through the end I'd October. I grabbed a couple extras.

This website had the coupon too but of course you have to wait for it in the mail. I'm thinking of picking up a bag and trying it with them. I just picked up two bags of grower mash today to hopefully help with their laying again. Such a weird summer this year with the hens. Just can't get over the lack in egg production.
