NY chicken lover!!!!

fox came and snatched my Sussex. I was home and came out just after it happened. Followed feathers into the woods. It dropped her and took off. She's recouping inside and I hope she'll be okay. I wasn't sure what happened but saw the fox running across a neighbors yard.

I don't let them out unless it's for a short period while I'm there.

Hope she's not injured too badly and can recover quickly. What good fortune that you were there to get her back.

hey rancher, I have got to say, I had such a bad time with foxes and other predators since 2007. This year, once we got the secure coop built, I have only had 3 losses between the ducks and the chickens(knock on wood). My rooster is full grown(sussex in my avatar) and seems to do a really good job. the red tail hawks and the bald eagles don't bother too much(only once this year and I scared the crap out of it with the gsd)--
check out your local animal control trap guy --we have one that will come up during season and trap to get the pelts and it is very cheap then.

I have been VERY lucky --my crew free ranges all day all the time.(do you need a rooster, I have extra now lol)

Well it's Day 5 in the bator for my eggs and I don't think a single one of them is fertile. I candled them this morning and not a single vein has started on any of them. One of the Buff Orp eggs doesn't even look like it has a yolk! I'll be cracking that one open later on. So this batch is a bust....

there should not be a charge for a guy to trap your property in season. If you are being charged by someone to trap your property in season you are being ripped off.

When you feed back eggs to the chickens do they have to be cooked or can you blend them and mix it in with their feed? Reason asking is because I was going to throw all these eggs in the bator out but thought why not give them back to the chickens?
