NY chicken lover!!!!

I'm having the same problem. I have 24 hens in one of my coops and I'm only getting a maximum of 10 eggs per day and they are going to be 24 weeks old on Sunday. I've had hens that haven't started laying until closer to 28 weeks though so I wouldn't worry too much... It's frustrating though and I have no patience :)

Hello! I found the thread my neighbor Rancher Hicks told me about (Thanks for the eggs, by the way). I am currently working on my coop (always a work in progress) and have attached some pics for any comments or improvements

I look forward to learning more from everyone on here

I need some help here.

I've got some young ones to give away, pullets and roos, chicks and older. I've got a BM Marans not yet laying pullet I'll give up cuz she's showing copper. I hate to give them up but you can have all the CR's. 4 hens and one roo. Or just the roo and two hens if you'd like.

The young ones are Frizzle/Del crosses.

You must take them all. Total we're talking 12 plus chickens.

I have a BCM roo - from a breeder stock - he is drop dead gorgeous - I had BCM roos from hatchery before and thought they were great until this guy started to feather out - he is about 4 months old now - and turns out I have two .... wait for it ..... roos. ha. So while I paid too much for these two BCM - I can't have two roos.

I am willing to trade for homemade canned stuff or a modest price to anyone who is interested in a super-quality Black Copper Marans Roo .... I'll try to get some pics up in a day or two. Will be glad to meet somewhere. Ask me any questions you may have. That deal is only for peeps on this thread or people you vouch for .... different deal if I have to list him on cl.
I know someone that might be interested. I will get ahold of him and find out. Do you have a picture that I could show him. He might be willing to barter. He has a basement of stuff that he has been canning all summer, and he also makes homemade wine! I know that he already has a rooster and has talked about finding a new one and he has a new found love of marans. Maybe he would be interested. He is one of our closest friends and was the finial push that convinced my hubby that I should get some chickens.

Welcome to the new folks!

On the 1982 subject, I was married and had a 1 yr old...so the majority of you could be my kids...or scarier yet, grand kids. But won't hold that against you, you are all great, and I've learned a lot from you.

My barred rocks have been hit by the ugly molt stick, two of them don't have tails at the moment, and they seem to be mean as snakes. Cleaned out the coop some yesterday, and the new wood shavings don't look new anymore, lots of feathers in there.

As the light was getting dim last night a rabbit ran over near the pen, I got all excited and ran to my spot to wait for coyotes, but no luck...dinner needed stirring, they seem to be staying away now that I'm ready for them. Except I hear them at night.

I'm sure I have you on the oldest. In '82 I was, I ain't saying here, but I was married and had two kids. I remember being in the hospital with pneumonia and getting upset because the "Edge of Night" soap opera came on. I was 3. Well not upset, but I hated it.

I knew that I wasn't the oldest. I met Gramma at the fair. I actually thought that I was one of the youngest. I still feel like a young pup untill the arthritist in my sholder, elbow and wrist starts acting up (too many horse related injuries) I was told that I have and "Old Heart" cause I have so many old fashion values that are lacking in to many of my generatin and younger. There are happily a few exceptions!

Now I don't know about that. "Growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional".

I'm sure that she would have agreed, laughed and said that was even better!

Okay silly questin here...Why aren't my chickens molting? My marans are a little over a year and the rest are about 7 months. Are they too young to molt or are they just late? I'm still getting 5-8 eggs a day out of 9 hens I'm not useing any special light, just letting nature do it's thing. Do they skip the first year or will it happen later?

Here is the best I could get today .... one of the full body - you can kind of see his feathered feet .... and one closer up so you can see the copper coming in.
