Very cute.

Rancher ~ Glad you got in see the Dr and it's nothing too serious.

Well, good news is I got 3 eggs today from my larger hens. So they're back to laying. Cracked them all open and bad news is none are fertile. I've seen Gru back at chasing them down again, but he minds his manners - if they run from him he stops running after them. The ducks are't too happy with me today. I kept them in the chicken yard because I wanted to see if my female KC is laying yet. She hasn't been going into the duck house that is left outside the chicken yard so today I decided to move the hut into the chicken yard and see if she lays in there. Nothing yet. They were 20wks old around 9/27, so they're going on 22wks old at this point. I've read posts saying that people have seen them start laying anywhere between 19wks and 22wks old. I just want to make sure she's not laying in the woods somewhere.

They are aewsome. Hopefully i can make it down to snag a few in dec!
Wanted to share a pic of Gru in his molt...his neck is the worst part of him now, at least he's getting some tail feathers back...

Oh no poor gru enter in the molt contest with your before pic of him so full. Glad you were able to help your neighbor. My 10yr old will get a ride back to house just to make sure our chickens are locked up for the night. When do those ducks start laying?

So beautiful.
The cuteness meter blew it's top today between County Boy's ridiculously adorable birds and TAB's precious baby pic of Nora in her sweet little outfit! Everyone have a terrific long weekend. Supposed to be glorious weather! Rancher - call your doctor. A wait and see approach is not smart when you are experiencing possible cardiac symptoms. Take care everyone. :frow TOB
Have a good one too! Imma party this weekend and while i sober up on sunday get some much needed yardwork done.
Saw DR today , not my heart, so I'm good. Will have some tests of course, but I'm sure I'll be fine.
That is really good news.

When do those ducks start laying?
They are supposed to start around 20-22wks. But I've heard others say they had some lay as early as 19. I'm just worried that with my set up for the moment, she has possibly layed out in the woods somewhere seeing as how she's going on 22 wks. I bought that poultry netting to keep the chickens in for a while and the duck house is in there as well. So in the morning I usually I let the ducks out first, let them out of the chicken yard, go back and let the chickens out but keep them confined to the chicken yard while the ducks stay out and free range all day. (Trying to clean up my yard a bit of all the chicken droppings and it's looking a lot better these days now that they have their own "yard") So since the ducks are out but they're house is in, they have no way to get back into the duck house. So today I left them in the yard to see if I get an egg from her.

Oh. My. God. That dog was back again today. Luckily I had decided to let the guineas out for the first time today and they went off when they saw the dog. I was in the yard, thank goodness, and I caught him just before he grabbed Lemon, my broody red six link who has chicks. I screamed at the top of my lungs, "If you touch that bird!!!" and he ran away from her. I grabbed him and got my hand on his collar and was about to take him on a fabulous, all-expense paid one way trip to the vet when his owner walked down into my yard calling for him. Guess she heard me yell. I looked her dead in the eye and said, "You better tie up your dog. If he keeps killing chickens he's going to get shot."

She apparently didn't think I was talking about myself, and she pointed over to where my neighbors live and said, "Oh yeah those guys? They've threatened him before." In this flippant, eye rolling way. So now I know he's been killing their chickens too! She then said, "Yeah we've been watching him, but I guess [the person who was supposed to be watching him, I wasn't paying attention, I was flabbergasted at this point] wasn't watching him good enough." In the same flippant way. Then they said they were "working on a shock collar." What? What does that even mean? Go to Walmart and buy a tie out for like ten dollars, how hard is that!? Then she took him home. I was so mad she showed up. If she hadn't doggy was gone. Anyway, I guess I'm calling the police now. Apparently they really just don't care. Either that or I'll bait a trap near the property border and catch him and give him that trip to the vet. Or if anyone else has any ideas how to get rid of him without a gun since I don't have one, I'm open to suggestions. I am DONE with those people and their dog.

If that wasn't enough, while I was out finishing the hoop coop, a hawk did a fly by. Didn't see me until the guineas alerted again and I stood up. Scared the crap out of it and it kept on flying. I screamed "you better keep going" after it and chased it until it was out of sight.

Jeez, my day today.

Oh man! What a day you had! That dog would have had my blood boiling! Ugh I can't stand irresponsible pet owners! I'd be trying to catch that dog and bring it to a shelter far away from your home!
