NY chicken lover!!!!

I wrote to Carol Bradford about my neighbors apples and pears and she says they're fine to eat. So I expect I'll be peeling pears, though I have no idea what I will do with them. I'll have to look at the recipe books.
My side still hurts so I don't do much. I do have a lot to do though.
you can make pie out of the pears---just use an apple pie recipe and sub in the pears.

Wow I didn't realize a dog could pull that much weight. That is so impressive!
It's very impressive ! And my boy is a novice at this game. The top weight pulled on Sunday was 3,050 lbs AND it was pulled by a 68 lb dog !!!!!
Hey Nutty, I have a pretty young Light Brahma cockerel looking for a new home

He could keep your 2 Brahma ladies company !!!

Cracrzy, I too am interested in the weight pull for dogs. I don't even know where that kennel is. Is it the boarding kennel in town on the 81 side of the street? Sounds like it is for any dog regardless of breed?

You might like to know about the Newfoundland draft pull that may be happening at Long Branch Park next year. I think it was spring they wanted to have it since water trials are Labor Day. The dogs pull carts of any sort that must have 25 lb of cargo through a course, and there is a longer trek with them featuring "an intriguing distraction." for water trials, they test the Newfs then other breeds if they have entered, possibly it would be the same for the draft test. The focus is on working together with the dog, dog following commands etc.
You're right pulling is open to any breed or mix. It sounds like what you're describing for the Newf's is a Carting test. That's quite a bit different then what we are doing. Carting actually involves the dog pulling a wheeled sulky. It's very cool to watch !
For the weight pulling................... think of the horse pulls at a fair. The only difference is the dogs don't work in teams.
The kennel is right on rte 11. Their track is outside so practices depend on the weather. We also practice in Oneida, the track is under cover there.

Looks and sounds good! One thing I have never ate is duck/ geese/ or pretty much waterfowl. We have never raised them or hunted them. Maybe that's something we can try in the future.
my favorite bird to eat is domestic duck. I've hunted and eaten wild duck and goose and have enjoyed them completely as well. Water foul is just plain delicious.

It seems like something I will have to try. I have tried a lot but just realized and can't believe nobody in my entire family has had me try duck. I haven't ever had the thought easier which is weird because I'm always trying to find new things to try and cook. I know I've made wild turkey in a crock pot which turned out good and my grandfather taught me how to make some of the best beef stew from our cows.

Don't know if anyone here is looking for cockerals / roosters. I think we all have them coming out of our ears

I have a Light Brahma, Buff Laced Brahma & a Dark Brahma. I also have a Wyandotte cockerel, he's pure, but he's the result of a mix of 2 colors, his color is white with pretty soft charcoal gray lacing. And lastly I have 2 BLRW cockerals

If anybody's interested just shoot me a pm.

wild turkey is so much better than domestic turkey. We just cook ours in the oven, covered and basted a lot. Moist as can be and full of flavor
