NY chicken lover!!!!

Well I checked on the hen today she laid an egg but her vent is prolapsed again and she has the white stuff down her back side again. Been looking around for information and a lot of different ideas come up. Going to try and keep treating the prolapsed first then see about the white butt. One post said every prolapsed they had had the white rear discharge.

It may just be poop ...because of the prolapse a lack of control in that muscle .
will she be getting a bath ? after that take some real honey & wipe that in & around the vent ..helps healing
They suggest separating her & putting her some place quiet . giving her no layer for a few days . Just greens , Etc

Hey, here's a question for all you rabbit people in here - how do I care for a rabbit? This one was laying in the road and fine except for it looks like it has a head injury. It was bleeding from one ear. It has survived the night, the local rehabbers I've talked to won't take it, and it seems to have some brain or nerve damage because it keeps its head tilted to one side, but other than that it seems okay. It's moving around, and it peed and the pee had no blood in it so I'm hopeful that there are no internal injuries. So...I guess I have a rabbit. I'd love a crash course in rabbit care so I can take care of it until either a rehabber will take it or it heals and I can let it go. Or, if neither of those things happen, I guess I'm gonna need to know how to house it because I'll be keeping it.
If this is a wild rabbit I have no idea. I don't know if they can survive on the same diet a domestic rabbit would. But rabbits are pretty easy to care for - feed 'em once a day, make sure they always have water available, etc. Mine rarely get treats other than timothy hay but I know some feed carrots, certain kinds of lettuce and other certain veggies. I wouldn't know where to to begin with caring for the rabbit you found, especially if it has some kind of head injury.

I am looking for transport for some Sebastapol geese from near Cleveland, Ohio to Vernon. I'm willing to pay for gas expense. I thought maybe someone travelling for the holidays or to a show could help me. Thanks.

Been busy busy here the last few days, haven't been able to post much. I've been skimming and posting back to whatever catches my eye...I got a new phone and it's going to take me a while to get used to since I decided to. I do a majority of my posting that way. Anywho...Went up the shed a few minutes ago to do another check on the silkies crest feathers and I found mites AGAIN on my lavender hen. No one else, just her. WTH?!? I sprayed that whole coop down with neem, even sprayed some on them and she's still getting them. She's not infested like before but I did see a few. So I sprayed her crest feathers with the neem and rubbed it in. If they are still there tomorrow I'll give her another bath. I don't know what else to do about these stupid disgusting bugs. Of course I'm all skeeved out and itching all over now. UGH

Since the others were fine and bug free I'm not worried about them too much. Should I spray them with neem again though to be sure? I can't even remember the last time I did it but I'm thinking it was definitely over a week ago, maybe 2?

Miquwid ~ Sorry I know you asked at some point how my little splash silkie girl was doing and I totally forgot to respond to you. I kept her out of the coop and away from the others for 3 days and once I saw her looking more "alive", lifting her head again, and moving around more I placed her back in the coop. She's doing just fine. I'm still not even sure what the problem was. Her wing doesn't seem droopy anymore so who knows why it seemed so limp that evening. But she is doing much better, thanks for asking.

I'm so excited, I was talking Christmas last week with my mom and told her about the Brinsea incubator that I've been wanting and she's going to get it for me this year.

Can't wait to use that in the spring!

Still no eggs here from anyone. No new layers, no old layers. I don't get it. I'm just accepting the fact that there will be no eggs this winter from these free loaders! Still have the lights in the shed and in the new coop. They're also still on grower feed. Have to pick up more this weekend along with some more shavings. Which reminds me, how much exactly does one chicken need to eat a day in order to survive I guess you can say. Is there even a recommended amount? I feel like I'm feeding my birds soooooo much. Usually when I feed them I fill their bowl in the coop but when I feed everyone outside of the coop I just dump a pitcher of it out on the ground so they all get at it and scratch around at it.

Marks the spot.

On the egg thing it can take between 2-6wks before they start laying again and dont remove the light until the days are 16hrs long to prevent a premature molt.

On the mite issue, you mention ash if you can rub it on them. Try bathing in a shampoo with d-limonene easily bought at walmart. Keep dusting and change bedding fairly often until they are gone.

Quote: Anytime, I'm ready. I can get up to 5 of them, they are small geese, or if there is't much room, just 3.

Yesterday, 2 Marans pullets started laying. Not bad color for their first eggs, found 2 again today...yeah!

Also my Coronations are starting up, but no one else....

How are the two you got from me doing? I've got a young hen with lots of color on top.
