NY chicken lover!!!!

Lynzi so cute, if I come near them they fly on the roost and come running towards the door. I usually have to sneak a pick in from the side LOL. Your buff is all in your face there!

I took that while I was trying to get the blue pullet in. Again, not sure why but I've had to wait on her the past few nights. Maybe she's looking/waiting for the frizzle? So I wait and wait for her to get her butt in there. Decided to take a quick pic of the older girls while I waited on her.

See now this is why I'm on BYC. I never considered using plexiglass for a window. The wooden coop doesn't get enough light.

I also never considered removing the bottom rung of the roost that no one uses anyhow. It would give more floor space. My roosts is attached to the wall on hinges so I can lift it up to clean under neath. With the bottom rung removed it will be even easier. Thanks guys.

Aria's coop looks so nice. I like that thing on top. Is it open under neath for ventilation?

No snow here but cold and my arthritis is killing my left hand and my toes.

Yeah I love learning different styles that people use on here.

I thought of doing hinges for the roosts but I went a little different route since I did my roosts across my coop instead of length ways. I used these and just set my 2x4 roosts in them. then I just pick the roosts up and move the boards while I clean. I did hinge the ladder to the top roost so I could pick it up if needed but more just to hold it to the thing.

I haven't been on the computer all week. And there are 265 posts. Sorry if I missed something but I'm not going to be able to catch up on them. Work and caring for house/family have kept me busy. Weekend mornings before everyone wakes up are my only quiet time. We're going to take the girls to see frozen later today. I'm looking forward to it. Fairy tales are nice escape from reality.

Does anyone know of someone with show quality BBS ameraucanas? I would like to get some hatching eggs for DH for Christmas if I can find some.

I hope everyone is doing well during this hectic time of year.

Good garden o' peas! I let the BR and that group in the way back out for a bit and one of the EE's decided she was going to go into the woods. Something must have scared them and I did see a hawk fly over, but no signs of trouble. I haven't been letting them out since the fox incident. I figured it would be okay for a little bit before bed since I've seen a flock of wild turkey's out in the woods.

Well anyhow it's not easy navigating through the prickers and brush but I managed to get her back to the coop and she went in. I was worried for a while she'd get to far into the woods though. Those blasted EE's can fly pretty good.

I tried an all horizontal roost with all the roosting poles at the same height but they picked at each other and there were fights so I went back to the tilted ladder type. I guess all at the same height interfered with their pecking order mentality.

Anyhow, I'm not good at cutting angles so the metal connectors while expensive worked out well for me. Otherwise every thing would be crashing down on my head.

I just shake their feeder so I can at least get them in their run then I go and do something else for a few minutes or so and come back out and lock up all the coops and then the run. But I usually gotta move fast cuz once they seem me coming they fly off the perch and surround me, I'm usually pushing them back into the coop and some bite hard. OMG

Rancher, if I didn't have this poultry netting up, I think this blue Orp would go into the woods to roost! She's not the brightest. For some reason she does not go in the coop to roost with the others at night when they go in at dark. This was around 6pm (?) or so at night. She'd rather just sit outside. This is the third night I've had to try to scoot her in the coop when going out there to lock up.

Hi everyone. All this talk of hatching has me looking forward to seeing baby pics soon. Also saw on the other NY thread that littlecritters started a thread for people hatching silkies this month or so.

I don't know about the lack of eggs. It fluctuates between three and none. It seems if I go out often I have more chance of getting eggs...which makes me suspect them of making their own breakfast. But Al's things have been upsetting here with bulldozers and strange men pouring cement...perhaps it's just that. Maybe I need to put a game cam on my wish list.
