NY chicken lover!!!!

They're good! I'm going to have a solid breeding quad, and they'll have a big 8 by 8 coop all to themselves till I start hatching their eggs!
That's what I do, and I've never had one get stuck yet.
Let me know if you're in the area and want mama chicken - she still can't get along with her former flockmates - I have to set up separate food and water for her and hope a fox doesn't eat her before I get home. (she jumps out of the run argh). She's a black barred bantam cochin, not buff.. but she's adorable! :)

See now this is why I'm on BYC. I never considered using plexiglass for a window. The wooden coop doesn't get enough light.

I also never considered removing the bottom rung of the roost that no one uses anyhow. It would give more floor space. My roosts is attached to the wall on hinges so I can lift it up to clean under neath. With the bottom rung removed it will be even easier. Thanks guys.

Aria's coop looks so nice. I like that thing on top. Is it open under neath for ventilation?

No snow here but cold and my arthritis is killing my left hand and my toes.

Every once in awhile I come up with a cool idea :) Its working very well. The girls tend to fight over who roosts in front of it

I was even thinking next year of making the whole south end clear plastic so it would get a lot of light in all year but especially in the winter when its so gloomy. I could always put a cheap tarp down half way if it got to hot in the summer but I doubt it would because the trees would shade it then. Just a thought to ponder now.

I like the idea of the roost on hinges. I have moved mine so many times trying to find the right spot.........Its finally at the south end & its out of the way now. Well except when I fill their water but I am short so its ok :D

When and what is the New Years hatch along.

I've got eggs in now. My turner broke and is at a tilted angle. I've been turning the eggs by hand. I have to new motor but am not sure how to take the eggs out, fix the turner and then put it back in, fast enough so the eggs don't get affected.

Back to the hen who was dragging her but. She's layin quite nicely where she is with George in the pool. I moved George cuz he was getting picked on something fierce. He's growing in nicely. Oh he did have a cold too, I think, I could hear him breathing. I'd seperated him first and put him on Duramycin. He seems fine now. They do have a heat light over them too. I'm not sure what I will do with them, when the chicks need that pool though.

Featherz - Don't feel bad When I first started I had three GLW and two SLW and 3 Aussies I gave away cuz they were bald. I don't know if it was the rooster or they were getting picked on but they just weren't doing well. I don't know why that happens.

I give mine a 'power boost' if I suspect trouble. Oregano oil (powerful for infections), cinnamon (fights inflammation), garlic (dewormer), cayenne (dewormer) mixed with yogurt (probiotic). Smells AWFUL, but it clears up and intestinal yuckies within a day or two.

From the AL thread. Anyone heard of this?

Yes I have used them all at one time or another. More as a preventive though. They get garlic, yogurt and cayenne at least once a month and meat weekly.

I actually added a lot of herbs to my garden last year and dried them for use all winter.

Rancher - yeah me too I'm glad I'm on BYC I've learned so much.

I love the homeopathic remedies of using herbs and good food, I use them too as preventative.
