you could always sprinkle some powdered snow over the area before nightfall, in the a.m. i'll bet you see tracks

at least then you would know what it is. if its a rat, you want to kill it as soon as possible. mouse sized traps wont work on rats, you need the big ones made to kill rats. sometimes i've got three or four of them set up around the outside of my house, whenever i see their footprints. if the snow is soft enough, i almost always see a tail swoosh in between the prints. good luck

I cannot get over how cold it is, it's snowing, and these guys are STILL in their pond! LOL They're crazy!
We have a pond and when we had Call Ducks they would stay in the Pond all Winter. We had to drive them in at night. That was a chore. THEY DO NOT WANT TO GO IN. Regards, Aria

Well I'm dumb and pretty much killed another chicken last night. I noticed it had a wing hanging down so I picked it up off the floor and put it on roost inbetween some bigger girls. Today it was dead by door I think it jumped down and tried to follow me into the house like I should have taken it. This was an EE I hatched at end of sept.
It might have happened ...anyway ...you might not have done anything to contribute to it
You have a lot on your mind ...Glad to hear your daughter is doing good ..

I look out there is a Dog in the back of our yard chewing on something ...Im like I hope it isnt a chicken .
I get stuff on & go outside ...he sees me & goes home ..
I put some Turkey bones in the garden for the chickens ..it turns out he is finding them & eating them .
He is young ..maybe 2 years old ...so far he hasnt shown any interest in the chickens ..
just saw him again today out there ..
The girl friend is letting him out ..I went over yesterday to tell them ...He had a invisible fence & collar < --Not using it right now .
I quess I will keep a watch out for him .

Here is DETOXING CHICKENS - IF THEY GET MOLDY FOOD

ANTI - TOXIIDANT --N-acetyl cysteine treats acetaminophen (Tylenol) poisoning by binding the poisonous forms of acetaminophen that are formed in the liver. It is also an antioxidant, so it may play a role in preventing cancer.
N-acetyl cysteine comes from the amino acid L-cysteine. Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins. N-acetyl cysteine has many uses as medicine.
N-acetyl cysteine is used to carbon monoxide poisoning. & MORE
Detox chickens

Pro gel and Pro Max are great products. I use pro gel for shipping chicks and it is also used for drenching cattle. Pro max is a great product to get the gut back into condition immediately after a flush.
1. I flushed all the chickens with Epsom salt and Molasses.
I used 5 water containers (one gallon each) I mixed 1/2 qt of Molasses with 2 1/2 gallons of water and 2 tbs Epsom salt.
The next morning I gave them raw milk. Pro Gel and Pro Max.
The Detox came the next day and I have been doing it daily. I also ordered the Antibiotic and I do not think I am going to use it..not sure.
I have been using the Pro Max with one feeding a day.I am letting them out tomorrow and I will see how they look.
I am pretty sure they are going to all recover..I am more worried about the consequences and after math. I have no idea if I runed my birds or not.

Evening all. Got half the deer done. Left the hind quarters hanging in the garage for a couple more days to age a little. Takes longer now that its just dh and I doing the job. The cheeps got some nice fresh meat today so they are stalking the doors hoping for more treats to come out. They arent liking this weather much but will put their dainty feet in the snow if it means goodies. We are supposed to get a storm tomorrow with about a foot of snow. Figures, as I am supposed to work till 8 pm tomorrow. The cheeps will not be happy about this! I will be blamed, of course. I get blamed for the evil white stuff and have to hear all about it while I am out shoveling out their run and coop.

My middle daughter showed up to drop off my rug cleaner and tried to heist some of the backstraps I had just put into the freezer. I swear that child would rip of chunks of venison as it walked by and eat it. She would be the one standing there trying to eat it out of the pan I was cooking it in and I am yelling at her to go away as this was dinner for everyone. I told her it was time she get a license and go get her own.

Good advice from grammachick. I now have three bins downstairs that hold a variety of things for firstaid treatment and such. I got tired of trying to find stuff at the last minute so now I have everything I might need for almost anything in these handy bins. Have a couple of dog crates as well just in case someone has to come in for treatment or something. I ordered that first aid kit from First State Vet Supply and have that in there as I was having trouble locating antibiotics in case I needed them. Dr Brown includes a description of each one, what it is used for, symptoms and how to use it.So far I havent needed it and I hope not to but better safe than sorry.

Stay warm and safe everyone. Jlaw---glad your little girl is doing well. Dont fret about the losses, you had something more important to do.

Actually they're smart! It's 16 degrees out in the air, but if the water's not frozen, it has to be at least 33 degrees. They're actually warmer in there than they would be out :) Mine do the same thing, lol.

I was actually wondering that after I posted the pic. That water will never freeze, it runs all year round since it's from the spring up in the mountain.

Ehh that might be but have to remember water will suck the heat out of you. I don't mind my house being 68 but let my water be 68 and we are fighting. Shoot I may take a thermometer in shower later and see how warm the water is I know warmer than me so over 98.6 at least. I'm not sure what the conducting rate for water compared to air would be or the wind chill factor.
