NY chicken lover!!!!

Ehh that might be but have to remember water will suck the heat out of you. I don't mind my house being 68 but let my water be 68 and we are fighting. Shoot I may take a thermometer in shower later and see how warm the water is I know warmer than me so over 98.6 at least.  I'm not sure what the conducting rate for water compared to air would be or the wind chill factor.

Well, ducks also actually have a very cool vein system in their legs. As blood flows out towards their feet the cool blood coming in takes that heat, so blood going out is cooled down and blood coming in is warmed up, thus preventing heat loss. It's really neat! Great white sharks can do the same thing, and it's what allows them to be so fast and agile compared to other sharks.

Pretty sure it's just a chipmunk so I'm too worried about it. I'm just glad I didn't find any mouse nests under my duck house yesterday upon moving it to see if anything was under there. So thats good. Cannot stand this cold weather. Needs to get back up into at least the 30's for me. Need to find a new water solution today. I'm so tired of putting water out there and finding it knocked over a half hour later. Stay warm everyone!!!

If you are concerned get a trap and set it, underneath a box of some kind with a hole for it to go in. I've been catching some pretty big mice and moles.

GRAMMA Thanks so much for the infomation thanks!!!

Pharm that is funny the cheeps get mad at you omg mine do to I'm suppose to have a treat every time I go out there regardless of the time. Your daughter is funny I can be like that as well at my parents house LOL. Ugh I worked till ten tonight and work till 7 tomorrow I'm so done with this retail LOL people are just insane.

Pyzis did you watch that documentary about ducks on the nature channel? it was super awesome I loved it, made me want ducks more and more. I'm now looking for musvocy eggs to hatch.

Lynzi the duckers are cute!

Evening all. Got half the deer done. Left the hind quarters hanging in the garage for a couple more days to age a little. Takes longer now that its just dh and I doing the job. The cheeps got some nice fresh meat today so they are stalking the doors hoping for more treats to come out. They arent liking this weather much but will put their dainty feet in the snow if it means goodies. We are supposed to get a storm tomorrow with about a foot of snow. Figures, as I am supposed to work till 8 pm tomorrow. The cheeps will not be happy about this! I will be blamed, of course. I get blamed for the evil white stuff and have to hear all about it while I am out shoveling out their run and coop.

My middle daughter showed up to drop off my rug cleaner and tried to heist some of the backstraps I had just put into the freezer. I swear that child would rip of chunks of venison as it walked by and eat it. She would be the one standing there trying to eat it out of the pan I was cooking it in and I am yelling at her to go away as this was dinner for everyone. I told her it was time she get a license and go get her own.

Good advice from grammachick. I now have three bins downstairs that hold a variety of things for firstaid treatment and such. I got tired of trying to find stuff at the last minute so now I have everything I might need for almost anything in these handy bins. Have a couple of dog crates as well just in case someone has to come in for treatment or something. I ordered that first aid kit from First State Vet Supply and have that in there as I was having trouble locating antibiotics in case I needed them. Dr Brown includes a description of each one, what it is used for, symptoms and how to use it.So far I havent needed it and I hope not to but better safe than sorry.

Stay warm and safe everyone. Jlaw---glad your little girl is doing well. Dont fret about the losses, you had something more important to do.

thanks I borrowed it from the natural Thread ..I figured I might need it sometime as well as others might too .
I have saved it on my computer for reference

You could try stuffing some dog hair in the hole. If you have some one who has a shaggy dog, just get as much hair as you can and stuff it in there.

We used our hair as we cut it at home we would put in baggies and then put some holes in baggies and post them on the posts or fence around guarden. Don't know how much it really helped just figured if you didn't have dog hair could try your local barber and get some sweepings to toss down the hole also.

Nope, no documentary on ducks, although that would have be cool to see! I'm just the kind of person who has always been obsessed with animals and since the age of three I have always watched nature shows and researched and just generally learned as much as I could about every animal I could. I know more useless animal facts than I will ever know what to do with, except they do come in handy when I pack up my menagerie each spring and take everybody to the local junior high to teach the kids all about animals and evolution for a day. It's really fun and they get hands on experience with animals a lot of them would otherwise never get. One year I brought in a silkie rooster and the kids were baffled as to what he was
