NY chicken lover!!!!

That is why they are used for animal who need to not be there.

Yes but they are dangerous to those who do. The gas they give off could kill unintended victims. This is why I suggested other things, that aren't likely to kill chickens or rabbits or dogs or cats or cows or pigs, or goats , or sheepses or horses or Mr. and Mrs Old McDonald and their kids.

Too they are intended for "Moths", hence the name Moth balls. Keep in mind there are other less toxic things for moths now, like Cedar.

Saw a mouse today in the Orp run. He/she will be dispensed with a snap trap over night.

Moving on. It is freezing out there. Lord have mercy I almost froze my ____________(fill in the blank) off. I got the newsletter from Jerry in Israel with pictures of snow they got. I have been to Israel at this time of year and they do get snow. Though it's funny that there may be snow in one area and completely warm in another. We saw folks swimming in steaming springs. Poinsettia trees two stories high. Amazing.

I took some straw out laid a blanket in front of two hoop coops. Strangely enough their waterers were NOT completely frozen. I just had to poke them with a stick to break them up.

The waterers in the back room were frozen though. It does get colder in there it seems. I've two heat lamp over the brooder with the two chicks, just in case one goes out.

I will be getting more straw and put some in the coop just cuz. I don't think the wood shavings keep the floor warm enough.

Stay warm,

Rancher

I forgot, I have a blue ee laying olive eggs. Very nice. Of the two new chicks one is an EE and I expect her to lay olive eggs. The other is a roo, now sure what but I don't intend to keep him.

Anyone know how dark olive eggs can get? Just curious about if I cross an olive egger with a BM roo.

Just got back from picking up some EE chicks. Started with wanting 4, added 2 to the bunch last night and came home with 7 this morning. LOL Pics to come!

I just thought of something
that might be be the chickens digging or is there a actually hole ?
Do you find the pile in the morning before the chickens are out or after the chickens are out ?
My chickens dig in my driveway only by the house ....I dont know what they see there .
It is a crushed run driveway ...just mostly stones

This is a hole, and it's confirmed, it's a chipmunk. LOL Saw it this morning pop out of another hole near my hydrangea that I covered up yesterday. Wish I had my camera on me at the time.

Here they are...
Congrats! They are cute. I really want one for both the egg color and the beard.
