NY chicken lover!!!!

I know right? I've never heard of a yellow egg layer but that's what she said. I don't know exactly what breeds the parents were but I really can't wait to get eggs from them come springtime/early summer.

Please post pics of what you end up getting! That would be neat to see.

If i ever find out when and where the picnick is i'll try to bring hatching eggs and chicks if i can/aloud. I am waiting to see what colors my re's lay still. But i have a white leg horn and silver amer hens that my amer roo will be over so should have light blue to blue.
Where did you get your silver am? My mom is starting with chickens this spring when her coop gets finished, I think they were on her list. I'm hoping my BO goes broody come spring, I would like to add some blue eggs to her hatch.

I got my silver amer from tab. My blue roo from a breeder out of valley ohio. When she is broody let me know can ship eggs. Right now all my girls on strike 1-2 eggs a day. Even my white leg horn has stoped past 2 days. First time shes stoped.

I hear ya rancher i was just sitting here thinking i need to get rid of all the random breeds i have and pick 1-3 breeds. I think barred rocks black ameraucana and golden cukoo marans is what i want. I need more marans from tab though.

I've been feeling the same way. I've decided to let my mixed flock die off and not replace them as they do (although they're all young so it'll be awhile till they're all gone, thank goodness since I like them) and just focus on my breeds. I'll keep the EEs and OE's and just put them in my marans pen to make OE's and of course I'll focus on the faverolles and cochins.

Yeah i'll build a hoop coop this summer for the mix breeds. Then when they are gone turn into my ee/oe coop. Figure two of the breeds i get will be auto sexing and the F1 oe/ee will be also only thing to sex will be the black ameraucanas.

Wife wont be happy with my plans but oh well.

thats too bad, i have heard alot of people saying the same thing, i hope to get a couple more in that late season, not easy unless you have a good spot. hunting land is VERY limited for that special season ,you almost have to know someone who lives in the area. did you ever wonder how many antlerless bucks die during the special season?
This is only my second yr hunting. Last yr we didn't find anywhere to hunt down there and its not looking good so far for this yr. The DEC is well aware of the lack of accessible hunting being a problem. I'm sure a bunch of bucks get shot.

I have 7 EE chicks at the moment that will be perfect in size still for this one if it hatches! LOL I'm looking to get down to 3 of those chicks, waiting to see if someone is interested before I list them on the CL...

Those chicks that are perfect sized now will grow in the next 3 weeks and will be towering over the newly hatched chick. The new chick will be trampled and pecked by the older chicks that are much more advanced. And feathering out at different times.

Ok, think this has been mentioned before. Dog food for chickens. Hubby's uncle had his dog die and gave us a nearly full big bag of Ol Roy dog food kibble. We are trying to switch our dog to something "healthier", but was thinking of feeding to the chickens for the extra protein. My older layers that always gave us eggs are molting and the new girls are slacking. We actually bought eggs for ourselves this week, so we can supply our customers and even then we are coming up short. Hoping with this thaw the weinies will get out of the barn.
On the breed front, I haven't decided on a single one yet, so continue to have a mixed flock of pure breeds.
