Hope I'm doing something right. They are still laying on the floor. They didn't like the box either. I'll keep trying until I find something. And the weekend is coming. Maybe I'll get some nest boxes built and hung on the wall. If it doesn't rain all weekend, that is. I bought a small bag of BOSS at Price Chopper. It was on sale. Scratch grain only comes in 50 pound bags...do you know how long it would take these 4 to eat 50 pounds at a handfull a day? Probably longer than I am going to be alive. LOL

I had luck with getting them to lay where i wanted by putting a fake egg in the nest. Maybe leave one of theirs where you want them to lay?

They are new layers, they'll figure it out eventually!

Hi, all! This is just to post greetings from a longtime lurker from just outside Albany, NY (I'm in East Nassau). I'm glad to see that there are several BYC members around here, and am delighted to make your virtual acquaintance!

I'm across the river in Feura Bush. I lurked for 3 months before I got an account so I could ask questions. Now I have 4 itty bitty hens from featherz and happyhensny is hatching me 6 more. Oh, and the original 6 I ordered from someone on here (who's handle I have forgotten...Does Susan mean anything to you? LOL) Her hens had fluffy butts, so she had lousy hatch rates. She is hatching me 6 more. So my flock of 5 is going to be 14 in short order. LOL So be careful These people are chicken addict enablers.

Did you see that we are haveing a real time gathering at Happyhensny's house June 25th. Check out the chickenstock area to find the thread. (I don't have the link handy) It will explain what we are doing...including a swap/sale, raffle and pot luck meal. (which meal hasn't been determined yet)

Lots of nice folks here. Lots of helpful, nice folks.

Are you getting little chicks or full grown hens? Good luck with them. I am having a blast with my 4. Soon to be 10. Then 16. OMG, I can't add. I have SIXTEEN chickens ordered.

I have some 6 inch river rocks....they are round. How fast do you think my hens will pass out if I put THAT in a nest box for them?

Its nice to see some local people on here. Seems most people active on the ny thread are east of us. I am actually 30 minutes northeast of Niagara falls.

Hmmm......... What other breeds do you sell hatching eggs for? I might just have to see if I could buy some more eggies off of you when you come up. If you are willing that is. The post office didn't destroy the eggs, which go into lockdown tomorrow, but I can only imagine how good they would be if the post office never got their hands on them.

I have more Project Lavender Orp eggs than I know what to do with!! Also Lav/split Ameraucana & eggs from my barred wheaten ameraucana project -- so technically Easter eggers, but should have amazing egg color & lots of breeding potential.

I also have chicks coming out of my ears!! Silkies, Orps & Ameraucanas! Save me!!!!!!!!!!

You have to tell me what your white over blue silkies look like! Mine are white with a faint smokey grey partridge stripe. Can't wait to see how they feather out!

There is a place on the bottom of the "forums" page to put what you are seeking. Then subscribe to the thread you start....someone may contact you via the forum. OH, and there is an auction on here too...that's how I found the breeder I am getting mine through. I looked through the auction for people in NY and PM'd her (private messaged). [then I found some for sale on THIS thread and someone else was doing an Easter Hatch LOCAL to me and NOW? my flock of 5 is gonna be 14.

It's also perfectly acceptable to say on this board that you're looking for something!

You never know what you'll find.

I have lots of chicks available, as do others right here. My breeds are in my signature.
