NY chicken lover!!!!

Hi payner! Welcome to the thread. I am not too far from you in LaFayette, but my flock is a mixed flock, so you would just get mutts, and I'm not getting many eggs at all. But there are others in the area...

Well then get yourself some Amer or Arau's and have mutts that lay colored eggs. Some folks don't realize that EE's are mutts/hybrids, but they lay nice eggs of various shades. Mutts/hybrids are usually better layers.

Hi Payner59, Welcome to a great forum!

I live between Corning and Watkins Glen. I'm not sure what breed of chickens you are looking for but I have BCM. I'm just into my 3rd year of trying to breed for that illusive dark egg. The way I looked at it was that you have to start somewhere. (My daughter went to college in Cortland.)

My TS never offers to carry my bags, I'm only 5 ft and every day my spine is falling apart, I really need to ask for help. They will help if asked, if I 'm patient enough to wait for them. I love having doors opened for me but it seems that it's only the elderly that do so. My DH is 66 and he never holds the door for me and nearly knocks me over getting through first. I haven't trained him very well, now have I? lol

How will they know you need help if you don't ask? At first it was hard for me being a man and them being women. I'm in there at least once a week just to hang out and see if there is anything I can't live with out, we're on a first name basis. Plus I'm not shy so if I see someone with chicken feed I approach them and ask them if they're members of BYC. If not I give them my card with the web site written on the back.

While we have this NY thread there is lots of info on others too. By subscribing to certain threads I get to know some folks and avoid the threads that get me in trouble.

Hello all, I am in Cortland, NY. Does anyone have turkey or chicken hatching eggs for sale? I don't have great luck with shipped eggs.

Welcome! I'm in Tully and can get a batch of Orpington hatching eggs for you. They would be out my Lavender hen and Splash Roo. I hatched a nice blue hen from the pair this summer. It would take me about a week or two depending on how many you want. All my eggs have been going straight to the fridge. I get three a day from my lavender, buff and BR hens. Not sure if you'd want just the pure or the mixes as well.

I agree with most opinions regarding the rude, inconsiderate, selfish behaviors of some, but lets remember, not all people are this way. You only need to see the smile on a womans face, young or old, when you hold a door, let them go first, etc. I have worked with juvenile delinquents for the past 18 years, I have bad news folks, if these "kids" are going to be my caretakers when im old, then shoot me now and get it over with! I dont mean to sound negative, but reality is a scary truth! google "knockout game", if you dont understand this post. OK, I think im done ranting...
