NY chicken lover!!!!

LOL, no I get that. But I mean I can drive more than 5 miles down the road from my house and still be in the sticks. I guess I would take the water/drowning approach if my shovel didn't do the trick. Lol

I honestly think most people don't know the law regarding dropping the critter off somewhere and if you did it at night who would know? Perhaps you could dump it into a burlap bag and then do it in.

I will never forget running in the house shouting to my now ex DH "get your gun there is a opossum eating Shirley!!!" My mom always said I should I always have a .22 handy on the farm because you never know when you are gonna need one. But my ex thought I would accidently shoot a horse... well guess what the ex is gone and I got me some guns!!!!

Okay so where is your ex now ?

Just an intro, new to the forum. Utica-Rome area, incubated 9 eggs, 2 were duds though and got 2 Sizzles and 1 Bearded Silkie. Any Silkie/Sizzle people close to us? We would consider doing another hatch, learned a lot from this one. We had some older eggs

that had traveled over 1100 miles

. The eggs that hatched were less than 5 days old. 3 didn't pip, and 1 gorgeous white silkie got stuck during the zip and didn't make it

So, if we were to try again it'd be best to get eggs that are a little bit closer to us. So our little angels that hatched play with us every day

watch tv with us

and know we love them.

There is no such thing as "gorgeous silkie"

Clearly one warned you about them before you got them and you didn't wear your hats.

Welcome to the madness

There's a couple of us like Lindsay said that have quality silkies and cochins. I had 3 new little cochins hatch last night with hopefully more on the way today. The 3 that hatched so far are nestled in nicely under their silkie mama.
Hatching shipped eggs is always a crapshoot, too many variables in shipping. Come spring I'm sure we can find you some eggs, just be patient.

There is no such thing.

I'll be honest and say that before coming here and talking to you folks I wouldn't know half the stuff I know today regarding all these laws and such. I feel like I'm living in a completely different world here than where I grew up. When I was younger my grandmother had a big squirrel problem in her back yard. She was the type that took great care in her backyard. Spent every afternoon out there tending to her flower beds, roses, ets and along with that she had all types of birds coming around because of all the bird feeders she kept. Well she would trap these squirrels and bring them down to the road to the local park and release them because she had so many coming around for the bird feed. I look at that as not a big deal at all. I don't know the laws in my hometown but if someone said it was illegal to do that I would think it was silly. So I am learning more and more as I talk to you folks because it's something I never in a million years would ever look into if I wasn't living out here where I am now.

This is why I like BYC. Not only do I learn a lot about chickens but other things as well. Like Silkies.

When I lived in the city we had not one but two squirrels get in our house. They are nasty critters. I used to trap them and take them away and let them go, cuz my son was upset that I gassed one once with the car exhaust. I must confess it most likely cooked before the exhaust killed it so I never did it again.

Be aware if they get in your house and do damage your home owners insurance will NOT cover the damage. Have a friend who came home from vacation and squirrels came down their chimney and tore up the place. Lots of damage.

My mother had them in her house as well. She has her own business that she works out of in her basement and she's had to trap squirrels down there before they did any damage to her supplies. I'll never forget going down there one day when I was younger, turning the corner and seeing this squirrel sitting there up on all her wood boards near the window and staring dead at me like I had just caught it in the act of something.
