O.M.Flipping.G! I caught my first "predator"! (Well not really a predator but varmint) DH got home last night and helped me set this old mouse trap I found in the shed and I'm glad I went with this one because I couldn't see those smaller mouse traps working with this thing! It's huge. Who ever mentioned norway rat was right.






We're setting it again tonight. There has got to be more because before flipping it over it looked like something was trying to eat this one. It's stomach was open and one of it's feet was chewed. So gross!!!! But so happy we caught it!

Oh and I finally found it's tracks in the snow...

Awwww, that is the cutest thing ever! I love how tiny the bantams are. Sounds like your hatch is going well!

Rats are predators. They can and will chew on a chicken. Glad you caught it. I saw lots of mouse/rat tracks around the coops this morning so I'll be setting traps today too.

Definitely better than the last hatch. Still no silkies yet but another cochin just hatched. I guess the good thing is they look like cochins. No sign of any Bob dna

Can't wait to see what the rest look like!

So far all 4 look alike. At this point I don't know if they're going to be mottled, all black, frizzle, frazzles, or smooth. It'll be fun to watch them grow up.

UGH Now I have to run out there and clean that pan to the rabbit hutch after reading that! Or maybe just remove it all together. So Gross!!!

Man all this talk about having to kill the opossum makes me so glad my dog did it for me. He was a very good boy that night and got lots of treats.

I think you can find a recipe for them on line. This way at least you won't feel bad wasting good food. No I am not kidding.
