Well today is day 4 for the silkies and out of 16 eggs looks like only 3 clears. Not bad i know some ladies dont make it easy for the roos. I cant wait till they hatch.

Today's my birthday and I'm getting myself some blue silkie chicks on Saturday to celebrate. Tomorrow I hope to take advantage of the warm weather to install a vent on the back side of my coop. Not enough ventilation it seems because my roo has frostbite. All the chicks in the workshop are doing fine, even with no heat besides the heat lamps. Little Eve has settled in with the older chicks and is doing just fine. Judging by her wing feathers she's going to be a pretty bird.
Pictures, we need pictures.
Birthday? Well good garden o' peas. Happy Birthday to you, Pyxis.Happy Birthday Pyxis! Yes, please share pics of your chicks!!!![]()
I am such a sucker. A lady at work who knows I have chickens flagged me over today and said, "Would you like six more chickens?" Turns out her neighbor down the road has some two year old leghorns, a silkie, and a silkie rooster, and has decided he no longer wants them because they are not laying him eggs. Well sure they're not, it's winter and they're a year older. Give them till spring and they'll start again. Nope, she says, he's leaving the coop open and throwing them out each night trying to get a fox to eat them.
I'm so sorry about your pup It is so hrad to say good bye. They are family.Again, my apologies for my absence on BYC lately. I've not been good company, anyway. Things finally got worse with our sick dog, Merlin, and on January 2nd, we had to say our final good-byes. I'm still heartbroken, missing him tremendously and having a tough time accepting he is truly gone. He was a special boy.
