NY chicken lover!!!!

Oh --- Pick me pick me - for the speckled sussex hens ! I have the best SS roo ... so sweet to his ladies and always on alert. I'm not tons interested in Australorps - so Cass called dibs on them anyway. But all others would fit with my flock just fine.

I plan to be at the picnic and hopefully Pyxis will come with me. I have some tasty things to trade for hens & of course cash still works too. :) I'm learning about beer making - so may have perfected a batch by then ....

I want to come! Hopefully I'll have some things to bring by then.

Pretty! I love the welshies, I have them myself. I'm hoping this warm break persuades them to lay some. That would make me so happy.

I'd like to try to make it out to Tab's for the picnic too. I'll more than likely have Silkie chicks by then, I believe someone mentioned May? Was a date set?

Ha! Just saw this ad on CL.

Free Mallard
He is an ****ole, not friendly with people or other ducks, approx 1 year old. UGLY too. He is disrupting the lives of everyone he encounters. I want him gone. I got him for free because of an add on craigslist that a ladies pekings were picking on him. I thought to give him a good home but instead call him Satan. Please take him otherwise his new name will be DINNER

LMAO

while I don't have a big yard I'm considering fencing off areas of my property to let it grow back while moving the chickens to other areas. I can't do a tractor but may be able to divide the area allowing entrance to two or three sections, limiting access to each for a period of time.

I realize electric fencing is movable but not easy for me as I'm old. I can't drag fencing around the yard.

Plus I'd like to take more control over what greens grow. I hope to buy seeds for different greens, just to get things going.
I'm thinking about getting some cheap snow fence just to block off a section of the run and reseed it this spring then once it is doing good I'll do another section and so on till most of it is growing grass again. At least during the summer the girls are out in the yard more often so they don't distroy the run as fast. I have thought about growing some sod type squares for them to have or get some alfala to dig through.

I contacted someone from CL about paying for and having a hive installed and maintained on my property. $350. I am just interested in having the bees and am willing to share the honey of course. This set up included bees and I would receive some of the harvest. It would make nice gifts for family and friends since DW and I don't use a lot. I just like it in my tea.

I have read that honey doesn't spoil, but cant' say for sure. I do use it in my jellies or jams on occasion too.

Now to figure out how to get that $350.
All this talk about bees reminds me of our bee problem that we had. When we first bought our house we had a huge hive in it. They bee's started it in a knot hole. The house had been empty for 3 years when we got it and the hive was HUGE! We had a guy come and get the bee after several failed attempts on our part to take care of it with several cans of bee spray...well what we did didn't even touch the surface. They ended up cutting a huge hole in the backwall to get the hive out it was about 4' tall by 5' wide and almost 6 feet deep! (no joke) It took 2 days for them to get the hive all out and most all of the bees. Then he put them on some apple farm in Cortland. It was on the other side of what is now the office and it was inbetween the floors right above the shower. You could stand in the shower and hear the hum of the hive and after you could still smell some of the honey.I have pictures somewhere if I can find them I'll post them.

Wish I still had our australorps. Those girls were gentle giants. Sadly when I made the switch to Barnevelders, they didn't make the cut.
I also have a few birds I need to move out. 3 blue silkie cockerals, a pair of black frizzles and 1 lavender cochin cockeral. I'm trying to clean out some of the birds that don't fit in with my plans this year.
might be interested in the black frizzles.. pair as in 1&1 or both the same?

I'm not Tab (or travis for that matter) but I did write the date down and May 17th (Saturday) is what I have written down. Tab can correct me if I wrote it down wrong or it was changed and I missed the change. But that does give you a time frame if you are hatching.
