4lbs max at about 2 years old. When a Sumatra is finally full grown. Like in humans weights differ a little

I'm not sure when they shed their antlers! Good point as I forgot they do that. Lol.

Some bucks are starting to shed their antlers now. My friend in Ontario (Canada) has found a few good ones already, but then he's a deer whisperer.

Porcupines will chomp them up if they find them 1st.

Ditto what Rancher said about staying in school. I have 3 children. 2 quit school for various reasons, one finished. 2 regret their choice and HATE their jobs (one even changes jobs ever couple of years to keep sane....so no career ladder for him). The one that finished her education is MUCH happier with her entire life than her brothers are. (and she can afford to travel and take vacations...they can't)

DON'T BE A FOOL, STAY IN SCHOOL. Loans. Talk to school counselors to see if there is money around the school she might qualify for. Borrow text books. Buy books online (MUCH CHEAPER). Forgo other pleasures in life to free up money for tuition and school related expenses. Ask for Cash for every gift giving occation. (My daughter bought one semester books each year with money from christmas and birthday ,,,b-day in December) Might have to give up the chickens (cuz feed cost money) until after graduation. Hey, then we'll all know what to give as graduation present!!! CHICKS!!!!

How good of layers are these sumatras?
4 to 6 eggs a week from each hen during peak laying season. Right now 2 to 3 eggs a week from each. Except the 6 year olds. They won't pick back up until the days get longer. Very good laying birds even though the hatcheries say they are poor laying birds. When I got Sumatra's is when I realized the "experts" are idiots

. Write a book and right or wrong it becomes "fact"

They are pretty darn good. When I had 6 of them laying (nothing's laying right now, darn birds) I got 4 - 5 eggs a day. Now their eggs are medium at best, so I can tell which were Sumantra eggs....smaller than my Large Fowl....but then, isn't that to be expected? They are only 2/3 (at best) the size of my Large fowl. I absolutely love the roosters. They are good flock protectors. My favorite roo lost his life taking on a hawk. (or falcon, never sure which is which). I mean he took on that hawk that was trying to fly in and take one of the hens. (And it wasn't even his hen, it was a large fowl). Great foragers. They would rather find their own food than eat from the pan (unless, of course, I add hot water to the dregs in the bottom of the feeder, then they are all over THAT) I love mine, but they love sleeping in the coop....so I can't have any more of them than I have. Just no more room at the inn. Now if Stony would teach them to live in the nice little open air coop Ray put on top of a tall tree stump for them, I could have 6 more. Silly, birds, they want to be inside out of the weather.
