NY chicken lover!!!!

I recently used insoluble grit on my path. The chickens will clean up some of it and I don't have to worry if they eat it. Not sure what is in Kitty litter and it gets mushy and messy. I've used it long ago.

Now sand is good but you might need quite a bit of it.
Grit sounds like a great idea....and I have some laying around. I think I'm going to get a couple bags of sand, at least to put down on the high traffic/walkways. I've never seen ice like what I've got going on right now. It's dreadful.

Though hopefully with the sun shinning and the warmer weather today it melts and drys things up a bit.

Hi Everyone! I haven't had much to say in a long time...just read all the post but I had to agree...........love wine! I have 6 carboys of wine in various stages on completion! I donate wine to the local shows and yup it always has the most tickets, well the feed sometimes has more, I am reading along and drinking coconut wine! delish and it is my second glass! So very funny!
mmm coconut wine that sounds interesting, right now i have 2-5 gallon batches going (1 barollo from a kit and 1 ginger hops) and 1 gallon of cranberry cider, i want to get back into making wine regularly again now that i have time

Pyxis - all new chickies made it through the night, but as it is quarantine area they were all fussy and slept in different parts - as there is not roost for them - they didn't like the new "hotel"

The leghorns look really skinny - so I'll have to fix that! The roo is calm, PR roo is strutting around and Magic is just moving around the pen to stay out of his way - they both seem satisfied with that. White roo could care less about anything but food and sun. So all is well today. Will put bad roo back in there tonight and see what comes of that.

Wine is good. nuff said.

Brelella (sorry I know I always spell that wrong) My personal preference is not to go the comedy or pun route - too many have done that ... pick something that touches your soul or passion - and connect to that. As I made some real bad choices and came back from it - and as I also take in neglected animals occasionally - I call my place Phoenix Farm.

So things like Apple Sun Farm, Raspberry Valley, oh - I see a wild food pattern ! Well you like horses - so throw some ideas together with your passion and run them by here :)

Spelling .... well I make my living doing freelance editing of other people's novels, reports and such .... and when I write I rush along to make sure I get the ideas down - I don't care about grammar, spelling - nuthin except the idea. Even on re-writes - I ignore it all until the very last step and I don't bother to correct it in emails and such - I look at those (and this) as casual communication.

Funny I can be such a detail person in work I am paid to do and not give a fig in places like this. :)
Glad the new kids settled in pretty well

Wine is very good

i am the same way, i am a very meticulous and organized person when it comes to work but when it comes to my house or car not so much lol

I'm thinking of changing my business name on my DBA before I file the rest of everything and order pretty things. The Chick-Inn farm just sounds funny and people keep asking me if I run a bed and breakfast in the country kind of business.

I just don't know exactly what else I want.

Here's what we came up with, Jeepers Peepers

or something like Little Peckers Paradise. ????

Sounds like a ton of fun!!! I'm also in the Albany area! Can't wait! Where is Tab's place? While I don't post in this thread very often I love reading what everyone posts! It would be great to put faces with names!

I agree I don't post much, but read it, if I remember to log in otherwise I don't get the up dates. Tab is in the Utica area. I will donate some wine!!!!!

Time...that is so hard to come by! We made hard cider last year...I have two kits going and two fresh pears and the other three.. I love to have lots of choices to drink!.."4 days in to 30 of no drinking" ?

Last night was fun! And mostly because Ginny was being honored for her achievements and we were all happy for her and got boisterous. It was fun because it was a sort of oasis of good feelings!

We travelled a lot for hockey and lacrosse with my sons and I watched lots of parents attitudes toward alcohol and then formed my own. That is that I prefer to have a glass of wine at home, or even two on a wild evening. But I took parenting seriously, and also safety, and decided that when way from home it is best to have the wits I have in good working order. And I prefer to have a drink with those I know well, so home or maybe at the campsite when camping works for me. And I won the basket with the Rex Goliath wine, which I thoroughly enjoyed, and Rex is frequently found in my refrige now.

On spelling, I realize that a word I just don't seem to learn is the grain, alphalfa. That may or may not be correct. It was never on a spelling list. Perhaps Common Core should address that.

Have a nice day, everyone.
alfalfa.ALFALFA ...LOL .We all have a word or 2 that just wont work in our brain .
I wouldnt overly worry about spelling ... I think most misspelling will be safe... longs we dont misspell SUMATRA !

Morning Everyone,
Just returned from picking up some Poulin Grain from Breella. We got talking about feed a little bit and how some our birds' eggs are awfully porous so I'm wondering if this feed may be a little better for my hens and the quality of their eggs. Time will tell...

My Blue Orp was 20wks last Wednesday so I'm patiently waiting on a first egg from her. My Buff Orp had hatched 3/28-3/31 sometime in 2012 and was the first one to start laying that year in August - around the 28th - 30th so that was 5 months old that she was. (Only reason I know this is because I got the chicks for Easter that year and we went on vacation in Aug that year right before school started, we got our first egg the day after we got home LOL)
We went to the feed mill again ..we will be switching permanently .
The feed is Fresh & wonderful smelling ..He said it is not GMO corn ...
and it is only 8.00 a 50 pound bag for layer ! Cash or check only ..
Quite a savings over TSC ..
