NY chicken lover!!!!

Well after seeing the "chunks" they were removing from the bumble foot pics I was researching, the clear puss/gel that was in the middle of this foot had some "hardened" spots around the edges. That's So that's why I was thinking maybe it was early stages? If it WAS frostbite and I did what I did, will it still be ok?? Is it a good thing or bad thing that I messed with it if it was frostbite?

Neosporin it and vet wrap. Soak it some each day. Try to keep poo and shavings out. I see bag balm talked alot on here but have no experiance with it. With my blister i put a little hole in and squeezed it out so she still had outter skin on. I was able to take vet wrap off in like 5 days. You may want to let it fan or air dry after soaking try and let a scab or outer layer of skin to start forming some.

With how it looks i would think of it as your skin missing a few layers just enough to dot bleed and make white blood cells show up.

Well I'm hoping if It WAS frostbite, I didn't do anymore damage. It's clean, it's covered and sealed so no dirt can get in there, I put an ointment on it to keep it from getting infected. If it was frostbite and I left it, I imagine it would have turned white and then black eventually and fallen off? No? So maybe it's a good thing I took care of it?

My girls blister didnt turn black her toe did but it was bad split open alittle and a little blood on that toe.

I think frost bite is like burns there are different stages. Like stage one cild and red stage two turning white and blister stage four black.

You shoyld be fine since your already keeping clean and ointments. Treat like a normal sore now. If anything turns black dont mean they will loose it. I was worried about that toe but i think my girl is going to keep it chickens are tuff.

Quote: No if it was split open I would of cleaned it up also. I would just keep it clean and covered & put some ointment of your choice on it. I found when I treated my hen for bumble foot that if you put a piece of gauze on it, plastic baggy with holes for toes (I found corner of baggy works best) wrap with vet wrap and secure with duct tape it keeps it clean for a couple days

Even in mud lol

Well, isn't that just about the most clever idea we have seen in quite a while?

Alright where was this pic a couple of hours ago?? Lol that is very smart! I'll have to do that tomorrow when I replace the bandage. Thanks!!!

I got 3 eggs yesterday and 6 today. Of course several were frozen. But what can one expect with the temps so darn low? Then I fed them half a loaf of bread for dinner. Means I won't have eggs for a few days. (Who wants to go out in this cold to collect them anyway?)
Moisten the bread with a little milk ...so they are still getting their calcium ..
Well it looks like my little chick has bumble foot. If I'm not on here tomorrow it's because I'm puking my brains out after taking care of this "surgery".
