Quote: Do you have house insurance? We had burst pipes that went to the upstairs bathroom, but were in ceiling over my kitchen sink. The water came pouring down. I was home when it happened & I managed to shut off the valve to the upstairs so we had just ceiling plaster damage & the burst pipe. Because the damage was due to frozen/burst pipes,, the insurance paid for repairs. Yes, we had a $1000 deductible, but the estimate was well over $2,000. The insurance guy stood looking at the leak and said " too bad you were home when it happened. if it had kept leaking you would have received enough to redo the entire kitchen cause it would have ruined everything...aarrggh...I wish I hadn't been home either, I could use a new kitchen...
FYI, for anyone that has this happen, we had to have a plumber come before the adjuster came to fix the pipe. We kept the piece of pipe, and good thing cause the adjuster needed to see that it has actually burst.
My point being, call the insurance co if you have insurance.
