NY chicken lover!!!!

I used a screw with a larger head and a large washer - screwed it in tight and it secured the hardware cloth ... My mistake was I cut the hardware cloth flush along seams - so when things finally settle - there are gaps a weasel could get through - so I would over lap any seams in the hardware cloth by a few inches.

Again - use the materials you have at hand or are used to .... many ways to get this done right .... I am very happy with my hoop coop.

I have used that roll of plastic strapping in my hoop coop as well. It holds my roosts to the sides of the coop. And I used the same staples for the base. Those suckers are a pain to pound in but the cattle panels are not going anywhere either. And we have moved the coop a couple times and the staples have held tight :)

I wish I had put this one further back, so I could put a run on the front. Though I have the BM's in there and I don't think they like being confined. The ones I have in the back run don't lay as well. At the very least I could put a bigger over hang. You'd be surprised at how much snow doesn't get in the way it's positioned.

I have to figure a way to move it.

The roosts are on both sides but I've hung some fleece over the top of this on and they prefer to be under it. I figure it keeps their heat near them.

You could add more hardware cloth bring it closer to the edge and then extend it in a bit and secure it with metal zip ties. I did extend it to the end of the 2 X 3. Because I have the tarp and fleece I doubt they'd find a way in.

This coop only has hardware cloth 2 feet up from the bottom on the panel end over the chickens wire. Front and back are completely hardware cloth.

All right! I'm going out to shovel to the coop and then bring them some more food, then I'll suit up for skiing. The snow plow guy was here around 11:30, so I can probably still get out. I kept the door to the coop closed, I think they like it, maybe feel safer? Those darned hawks.

Oh, when I can I will post the pix I tool of the mystery tracks that came again a few days ago. This time it went all around the pen, but didn't go under the gate because it was iced up solid, didn't even see signs of digging attempts.

It that just 1 panel?

Just got done shoveling my driveway and I need SALT!!! Lots of it! We never shoveled last snow fall because, well A it wasn't a lot of snow and B we have all wheel drive vehicles. Well my whole driveway is a sheet of ice. Fell twice shoveling it, and if I dare leave in my truck I'm not stopping until I hit the road. That can lead to some trouble living on a 55mph road. So I gotta wait for DH to get home with salt and hopefully he can make it up the driveway. :-/

I *almost* got in my car and went out to my PM clients. Then the snow started falling harder. I just came back inside. Once in a while I make the right call....today was one of those days. GO ME!!!

Afternoon all. Shoveled twice so far. We are up to 10 inches so far. Neighbor finally plowed our road. Refilled waterers and feeders. The terrorists are out walking the paths. Speaking of, I finally got some pics of Bill and Thelma and Louise. Since I am always talking about them, I can now show you them!

Louise on the left and Thelma on the right. They come out no matter what the weather is like. I do love these heritage rir girls. They are straight comb.

This is Bill. He has a rose comb and is a big boy. His tail is a bit raggedy from the sexlinks picking at it.

Closeup of Louise. The coloring is a reddish mahagony color. She does have the characteristic red stripe down the front of her legs and toes as well. Cant see them under the snow though! You can see more pics on my profile page. I estimate the girls weight around 7 pounds. Bill is much heavier.

Now you can place the chicken with the name when I talk about them!

Hoping the snow is done soon. I dont need another workout.
