NY chicken lover!!!!

Thanks Grandma Chick! We were thinking that Fredo may be a roo, always on the lookout and seems protective of the others. Maybe they are all roos? Fredo has the most personality. Fredo had the bum leg when it hatched and I did physical therapy for a few days, every couple hours, until it was able to stand on its own. Fredo flies back and forth between us, very friendly! We started this little project thinking we'll get eggs but if we don't it's ok too. These are amazing pets!

Yes they are ..who knew a chicken could be so much fun .
My hubby doesnt like chickens in the house ..But I bring them in when they need 1st aid
this my chicken diaper solution for a full size chicken ..a walmart / grocery bag
handle goes over their head , bag goes under them between their legs , then over theyre tail , then the other handle goes over theyre head from the top
if this makes sense ?
camouflaged- She was standing there & my husband walked right past her & never saw her .

Odds are you have at least one hen out of three . With one hen you can get more chicks if you have a roo .
My broody TT has about one more week of laying on eggs ..I am anxious to see if she will hatch the 2 she is setting on .
Her 1st try ..so she only got 2 to see what she will do with them .

Goldie solved the pecking on her wings .. thing herself
She dust bathed dirt all over the area

Any ideas on what sex these might be? They are now 6 weeks old. From left Silkie (Beak A Poo), Frizzle Sizzle (Chicken Nugget) and Smooth Sizzle (Fredo). Fredo and Chicken Nugget play fetch. Beak A Poo is stand offish, acts like it's got autism, doesn't play like the other 2. I was thinking because it's a pure silkie and the others are silkie cochin crosses and maybe silkies act like that? The other 2 are anxious to climb up in our laps and play with us. They all love to be petted and Chicken Nugget (the frizzle) loves little back rubs, falls right to sleep. Fredo perches a lot, we put a Christmas wrapping paper tube in the XL dog cage, Chicken Nugget perches low on a branch, and Beak A Poo just sits off in the corner it can't fly. It does get upset if it's separated from the others or if they perch above it. I tell Fredo it's a "Percher on", haha, like a horse, a Percher on.

I do believe your silkie is a roo, given the tophat on him and how far back into the tophat his comb is going. Pretty sure the one to the left of him is a roo as well. Glad you are enjoying them. Just be prepared that roos get to a jerk stage and can be mean. I had a silkie roo named mumbles who I spent a lot of time with as he was an only chick. I did all the things with mine that you are doing with yours. However, when I finally put him out with other silkies, he became very aggressive, attacking even me. I have the scars to this day. Mumbles found a new home on a farm where he has been taught manners by some larger roos. I have never repeated that mistake again. Roos are hands off unless inspecting them. Works much better for me.

Not only that, but they CROW! (As I've been listening to Gru go at it for the last 20 mins!) And I don't know how I would feel about having not only 1, but 2 or 3 INSIDE the house crowing! Lol it's loud enough as it is listening to them while they are outside.

Back from running some morning errands...I've got this cough thing going on that the kids had last week thanks to my daughter constantly being in my face while SHE was sick!

Picked up some medicine while I was out. Hopefully I can kick this before we head out to Buffalo this week for this dinner.

Brought up the fox to my husband last night and he thinks we should get some type of gun. I told him probably not a good idea considering we probably wouldn't do much damage seeing as how neither of us has no gun experience whatsoever. I wouldn't even know what to get nevermind using one! So that's out of the question. Although knowing him he'll probably just come home with something one of these days.

Nothing new on the chicken front. Still no eggs. Not even from Nancy. Thought the silkies might pick up laying since they have a better light in their coop now. I'm sure they'll start soon enough.

At least it's "warmer" today than yesterday. Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!
There is a horrible cough-sore throat-cold thing going around. I caught it from my grandkids, sore through lasted 2 weeks....grankson was sick for 5 days, his mother & I, 2 weeks...just over it now. Very annoying. Starts with a weird dry cough for a day or so, then sore throat & chest cold. Hope you get over it fast.

Quote: They all look like males to me, am sure the silkie is. Pullets cress go forward down over the eyes not swept back like that. I agree with pharmchicken, making pets of roos turns them into agressive roos when they are old enough to breed. They aren't afraid of you anymore. The only 2 roosters that ever were mean & attacked me were silkie roosters, mean little brats. I never, and I mean never, pick up, play or cuddle a rooster. Works for me, I prefer they are afraid of me & run in the opposite direction, or at least ignore me.

Ugh it's awful! I can't sleep at night because I have this constant "lump in my throat" feeling, like I've got a pill stuck or something. LOL I cough, my eyes water, I hate it. and we're leaving tomorrow, this should be fun! "Hi!!! How, (cough cough) are you?!? It's so nice to (cough cough) see you!"

I don't know who came up with the "fact" that a duck's quack doesn't echo...but I'm about to prove them wrong! These ladies are so loud in the morning and get so excited to come outside. When I walk away they let out these loud quacks, almost like they're saying "Thanks for letting us out Mama!" and it definitely echos thru the valley here. LOL
