Nora came out to collect eggs with me. Our timing was good. Just got in and was feeding Nora her dinner looked out the window and it's pouring.

It obviously can't climb because if it could it would have just gone over the fence Whatever it was it didn't get in and everyone is fine. Just wondering what size trap to set to catch it.

How high does that fence go? Were there any prints in the snow (I can't tell in the pic)? I have had deer mangle my garden fences from time to time by standing on them to eat vines off of them. I don't think a fox or coyote (although they might if the fence was loose enough to get going on it) could do that and a racoon or possum would have climbed over. I think a fox or coyote would try to dig under as well. It is too early for the bears and they would have just plowed it down anyway. It almost looks like someone stepped on it to try to get over it. Any wild hogs by you? You have me stumped on this one.

I also had a hen with a prolapsed vent today. I managed to clean all the gunk out of her feathers and when I put it back it stayed in, so we'll see how she does. If it comes out again I'll have to separate her and try to force a molt so she stops laying.

2 of my old girls had prolapse last year. I cleaned them up and applied some hemorrhoid cream for a couple days and it has disappeared. I also took them off layer feed. I had read that sometimes to much calcium can cause prolapse. I leave oyster shell free choice now only. The lady that had them had fed them since they were born layer feed & I wondered if that was part of the reason for the prolapse. They also have pinched tails so I am assure that is part of the problem as well. I did not force a molt to stop them from laying tho. They still laid while I was treating them.

I hope your hens prolapse clears up.

False alarm on the gate, thank goodness. I spoke to my dad about it and it turns out he was trying to be nice and clear a path with the snow blower and he caught the gate in it. At least something huge wasn't trying to break in!
