NY chicken lover!!!!

I hear ya - got enough mud here to build a chicken coop......shame it's not Arizona!

I had to dump a bale of shaving in the back coop as it's wet as the dickens. Chickens feet can't stay dry. I should have put it six feet to the left. I'll be digging shallow trenches in the summer time so the water will run away from the area.

The ducks will love it though.

I know they used dung to make bricks perhaps we can use chicken poop.

Hi all, it's your displaced Binghamtonian lurking from Tennessee. I am looking to relocate back to Broome County & I'm curious if anyone on here could shed some light on urban/suburban poultry laws. Is anyplace in the greater Binghamton area 'backyard chicken friendly'... also if I can I'd like to find a place I can have a roo -that's rural, i know- but what are the minimum acrage requirements if any? Anybody with answers/advice please PM me. Thanks, I really want to come 'home' and i"ll need my birds to come with me!

Evening All!!! I'm Baaaaaackkk! Only took me 6 hours to get home today since I took a detour to get ducklings (and chicks). As far as the silkies go it was a no-go. She washed the birds yesterday before we were going to meet and they were sick. And of course she doesn't want to sell me them as much as I don't want to bring sick birds home to my flock. I was just so devastated. I had been waiting for what feels like over two months for those birds, I planned my trip around getting them. Just really upsetting but what can ya do.

On a good note:
Picked up some cuties on my way home...

And on an EVEN MORE positive note, I came home to THE BEST welcome home gift ever!

Walked up in to the shed to check on my silkies and found out they are LAYING!!!!! Not only is just one of them laying they are BOTH laying!!! The eggs are different and one is definitely from my lavender where the other would be from my splash. I am soooo excited! I think just for the heck of it I'm going to throw them in with my eggs I purchased yesterday and see what happens. I know my roo has been mating with the girls since they now have a much larger space.

Hi ya Cat. Can I ask why you'd want to move TO New York when many of us would rather move away? Don't know a great deal of Broome County but Chickenstalker I think is from down that way.

Just type in Chickenstalker and you can PM her.

Delaware eggs I could see getting excited over. And I am they're laying up a storm.

Now I saw some Splash Ameraucana eggs for sale on the sale part and I do like those but to expensive for me. Who here has Ameraucanas?

I didn't know either, I made the decision to while I was in CT. The girl had extra fawn and white runners so I (hopefully) picked some out. They were hard to tell from the Pekins. ke5hde wanted some, he came by and picked up 2 this afternoon when I got home and I have 4 more. I'm hoping at least two of the 4 are runners of not owell, I'll sell them. Anyone want some Pekins??

The girl I got them from gave me extras so they'd stay warm. Then I also decided to get some chicks, again hoping I picked out some cochins. Won't be able to tell until they grown up. They are tiny tho so they must be bantam cochins. Think I have a mottled and maybe a splash. But again, I have some extras. Only looking to keep the most at 4 maybe? I brought home 5 but I also got 3 chicks from Ke today. So I'm up to 8. If anyone is looking for some bantams....
