OMG just came across this video one of my friends in CT posted! She was on the news (the one holding the little girl in the video) because the house across the street had 193 chickens inside of it! Yes, 193! This was in the town that borders my hometown in Ct.

Gotta question about my muddy ducks. Can I just give them a thing of water once a day and a dish of gruel to eat. They just empty the water and make a mess. I don't even think they drink it. Just splash it around the brooder.
I swear I hear the laughing as I close the door. Those pics of them smiling? I think it a Smirk and they need a good smack!
I do a similar thing with mine. I used a half gallon milk jug and cut a hole in one side that I use for the water. They usually stay out of it, but I let them swim in the sink almost every afternoon. I clean their water out everyday. I usually clean their brooder when they are swimming. Then it is blow dryer time. But they are still messy. I'm trying to work out some ideas to make them a bigger area so that I don't have to clean it everyday. Every couple days would be nice.Use a bigger dish/tub for water that they can't knock over. I cut the bottom of an ALL laundry detergent jug. I clean it out once a day, don't go crazy trying to keep it clean. Remember when they go out side they're going to be drinking/drinking muddy water and whatever water they swim in outside.
P.S. They WILL want to swim in it too!

Wow. Thanks for sharing. I grew up in CT too. Can't imagine 193 chickens in one house, even if it is a big house. And in Plainville the houses are so close together. Very sad that the birds all had to be euthanized.![]()
I love that my chickens and geese can live happily outside.![]()

I wish Tractor Supply would have some of the specialty breeds. Here, we get the basic breeds and that's it. I'd love to find a few Buff Orpingtons, a couple Delaware and a Frizzle roo to breed with a few of my larger hens. Geneva had Buff Orpingtons, I called first, they said yes, so I drove the nearly 2 hours only to find out they had 1 but in order to get it I had to buy 5 others of a different breed. NY rule, you know. (Ironically, the Amber Sex Link pullet turned out to crow.)

What size bin do you have them in? Do you have a heat light over them? Are they in your house? What size jug is it?
I said to my husband I can't even imagine ONE chicken living inside my house, nevermind 2, 3 or 200!
it's a 116Qt Rubbermaid bin which may be a bit small for 5 ducklings of this size by now. I use a 1.96 gallon laundry detergent jug, one of the ones that usually runs $17.99 at the store (you may not don't buy that size if it's only you and your wife doing laundry) cut in half and filled with water. But anything that's close to that size will do. Even you have a large enough brooder where you could fit one of the small Rubbermaid bins in it like this

anything about that size that can hold water and wont easily tip over will do.
I just took the heat lamp off of them yesterday when the chicks hatched since they needed it and I only have one. They are doing fine. It's stays about 70 upstairs in that old office room of mine.
