NY chicken lover!!!!

Glad the power came back on. Nice the animals didn't eat the peepers too.

I was seriously hovering in the background

The Beagles are very good with the older chickens and don't bother them at all. They catch the occasional rodent on 'barn patrol' & the chickens don't even take any notice of them, same with the cats - although Ginger would have liked to play with the peepers..........

My cat sleeps on top of the brooder guarding the peeps. How do I know she is guarding them, not casing the joint to eat them? Cuz she never puts her paw through the wire and when they get feathers and are warm enough without the light she stops guarding them. I do think she would come get me if the light failed in the night. She just walks around the adult birds, never gives them a second thought. (now let a mouse or mole run across the yard and she is all over that action. Sat waiting for the chipmunks to come out each morning, until the left their burrow earlier than I got up. Poor kitty. Nothing fun to do all day)

My dogs and cats would be all over them and not in a good way. When we play with the ducks and chicks, we have to lock the dogs in their crates and keep an eye on the cat. Outside the cat will walk in the middle of the chickens and not even think about them, but the little chicks look like free game to him, I catch him out in the back room looking in the brooder at them. He doesn't seem to be interested in the ducks, but the chicks look like a tasty treat. I don't think that the dogs will kill the chickens on purpose, but they are both bird dogs and would love to have a crack at chasing them again. I ended up putting chicken wire up around the top of the run after 2 chickens on separate occasions flew over the fence into the dog yard. I was able to get the chicken safely one time and the other managed to grab the dogs as they were chasing her around. It was only a few days later that I got the additional fence to make it taller so it wouldn't happen again. Now once the snow melts I'm going to have to get some more to go all the way around.

Evening all. Everyone spent the day outside on any bit of grass they could see. Candled the eggs and pulled three more. Lockdown is on tuesday. Threw some silkie eggs in the brinsea to see what happens. Gave the silkies some eggs today. Cooked a turkey for dinner. Guess what the terrorists are getting for breakfast? Yup, the carcass and all the goodies that are left. Should keep them busy all day.

Rancher---nice pics.

Stay warm all.

Luv, thanks for liking my photo of Fredo!

Rancher, really pretty birds! We get packages from China, free shipping all the time. He's big into electronics, has found wires that would normally cost $25+ from retailers here from China for less than $1.00...hahahaha! IDK how China does it but buying directly from them is very cost effective. We've never bought pineapple corers.

Desiree, Congrats on the newly hatched baby! Enjoy!!!

I just wondered about the huge variation in prices for what appears to be the exact same thing.

The pineapple corer I had worked great. But I found just using a sharp knife worked better. That core is so tough it's a lot of work to use the corer. I just take the skin off the pineapple then cut the fruit off the core & cut into smaller pieces

Gorgeous birds Rancher! Love those Dels!

My chicks had a close call this afternoon. The power went out - I discovered it about an hour after it went down, so I had to build a fire in the stove and go get the little things. 2 of them were very quiet, eyes closed, feet icy cold - so I tucked them into my trapper hat and put them in front of the fire. After about 10 minutes I started to hear peeps - phew!! Bonnie Beagle was guarding them in this photo....... The little darlings were so grateful, they left several small deposits in my hat...

Ginger cat was fascinated by the noises coming from my hat......... anyway, powers' back up and they are safely back in the brooder. I think poor Henrietta is destined to have an interesting life.......

Glad your power came back on.
Can someone explain to me how this works. I' m looking at Pineapple corers on Ebay. Some are as low at $3.26 free shipping, from China, but some are as high as $117.99. They look to be the exact same thing. What gives?

The all look to be "Flagship" brand and the "as seen on TV" Item.

I can see a huge difference with these ones.
I have a baby!!!!! My first ever!!! It's so rewarding hatching your own egg even if it is a mix. I think it's a Jersey Giant x EE..

Oh so happy for you congrats
